Thread: Red Gum Table

Pretty shiny Dave. I have used a bit of Shellawax on furniture and it gives a good result but I think Traditional Wax might be easier to handle. Shellawax is great on smaller items but a lot of work to get right on big stuff.

See what others say as my knowledge is limited. It might be a good solution to use Shellac as a base buff that back with EEE and then top it with Shellawax. See what others say.

G'day David.- Shellawax would be the wrong thing to use by a country mile. Although it can be used on flat work it is only recommended for small flat work (small). It's really designed for use on the lathe as a friction polish where it is worked into the heat undre high speed and enormous heat from friction.

Try Organoil, maybe their Hard Brunishing Oil or Danish Oil. Not really keen on poly and Red Gum unless it's really, really dry timber and no more than 25mm thick. But the Organoil products are really suited to Red Gum even of it's not fully dry. It should also save cracking of the timber from shrinkage etc.

Feel free to use our EEE ULTRA SHINE over the top of the Organoil product or any other product you might choose.

And wouldn't it just wreck a swansdown mop?

Strangely enough it's not too bad on a mop. You just have to use a lot of it to condition the mop as it basically has to be clogged or glazed with the Shellawax before it works properly. New mop pulls the Shellawax off the timber. Glazed mop burns the Shellawax into the timber (in theory) Mop can be glazed with EEE or Trad Wax or Shellawax or even an oil, doesn't really matter what so long as it's glazed.

Still wouldn't use it on the table though.

Yes it works well over Organoil and it will also help to burnish the oil a bit more. Leave the whole thing to dry for a couple of weeks before using the EEE and/or mop. You need to make sure the surface is well dry or you will keep the wax in the eee soft and won't get the desired result.
