Default Renovating front door of house

    Folks,

I have a ceder front door to my house that I had french polished about 8 years ago. The problem is that living in the UK it recieves a lot of rain and if I am lucky some sunshine...

This means that the door and frame are faded. The top of the door is pretty much still the original colour but the bottom has hardly any finish at all. There is of course a graduation across the door between these extremes.

I guess I have a couple of options:

    1. Have the french polishing re-done.
    2. Strip it and re-coat with a more common external door stain/varnish.

    Recommendations?
If I follow option 2 - how do I remove what is presumably shellac so that the stain doesn't react?

    Thanks to all

Hi, Shellac and rain/moisture dont mix.

Shellac can be removed with Metho.
I would use Polyurethane for any outside use.
