Thread: reversing too much wax

Help. I don't want to make this worse than it already is.
A member of my family used way WAY too much wax on our diningroom table.

What I've tried so far is 000 or whatever wire wool but there is so much extra on the surface the wool just gets loaded with wax. It isn't evenly spread, I can even use a credit card to scrape it up (along the grain).

What is the best thing to do now to fix things? a mate recommended a little mineral turps on a rag to strip the excess, then re-wax with the right tiny amount. I've also some methalyted spirits, anything else requires a trip to a hardware store.

In light, the dark surface of the table previously shiny and good looking has random mottled islands of wax which is obviously a bit sticky, and can be removed with a fingernail.
