Default How Do I Rub Out A Satin Finish?

I was wondering if anyone has a tutorial on rubbing out. I have a cabinet which I now have perfectly flat with primer on, I will be spraying it with White Knights Black Satin Finish Enamel, I then want to add a clear. Could someone either give me a tutorial on getting a perfect satin finish or tell me how its done?, theres loads of tutorials on rubbing out to a mirror finish but none on rubbing to a satin finish.... do I have to rub the black paint flat first before I apply the clear?, and what sandpapaer do I use?

    Thanks,

    Sam

Rub with 0000 Steel wool dipped in a good furniture wax, Liberon Black Bison, neutral (is my choice) or something similar.

Then buff with a soft cloth.

    Cheers

Hi Steve, Thanks for you're reply. Do I need to sand the black satin paint flat first, apply the clear, then use the steel wool & wax?

No steel wood and wax is the finish after all coats have been applied and dried, the 0000 steel wool with dull and flatten the finish fine.

When using just 0000 steel wool to flatten the finish I'm left with fine scratches on the black surface. If I use Liberon Black Bison wax with the steel wool will this get rid of the scraches and make the surface darker?

I thought that fineboxes suggested to use the steel wood dipped into the wax. Is that what you did or use the steel wool on it's own?

Ive only used steel wool on a piece of scrap for test purposes before I do anything to the cabinet. I havent got any wax yet, but before I go out and buy some I was wondering if it would make any difference to the finish?

You need the wax on the wool.
