Staining over filled cracks?
HI,
I need some advice.
I made a platter from Camphor laurel. It had great patterns in the wood but unfortunately the lighter sections of timber had greystain mould marks which just looked dirty after it was finished with wipe-on Poly.
So I stained it and a couple of hairline cracks that I had filled with CA were invisible but now look like nasty scratches!
I have 2 possible ideas:
1. cut out the superglue, stain in the crack and fill again with superglue before refinishing.
2. Fill the crack with something that will take the stain. Does anyone know such a product?
All suggestions are eagerly sought!!

CA Accelerator tends to show up whiteish when stained or under some polishes. Keep the accelerator well away in these circumstances.

Cracks
Hide glue will take the stain.

Get a filler that matches the colour of the timber AFTER you've applied the stain and first coat of poly. Don't match the uncoated timber colour. You can blend wood putty colours to get a perfect match.

Not being a turner but having filled small cracks before - I have had success with filling the crack with very fine dust from the same material [get it from your orbital sander bag] before using the super glue.
Just a thought.
