Staining and Finishing Edge-Glued Clear Pine Panels
Hi all,
I am building an interior built-in bench seat come living room cabinet. The entire cabinet runs about 10m in length. To top it, I am using 1.8m length edge-glued clear radiata pine panel bought from Masters that I want to join together end to end. The panels have a very nice smooth finish and seem to be very square.
I would like to stain them to more of a golden colour before finishing with clear coat.
I've bought some Wattyl Colourwood colour matched timber putty (pine), Wattyl Colourwood Interior stain (Baltic Pine) and Wattyl Estapol Xtra Clear Water based polyurethane (Gloss) for the job.
Anyone vouch for these products or recommend better? I had bought Pascol all-in-one stain and varnish but balked after I read some bad reviews about all-in-ones.
Will this timber putty take the stain at all if I were to join the panels before staining or would I be better off to stain them separately then join them and colour match the putty to the finished product?
Thanks in advance
Leon
