STAINING mdf
This might sound like a silly question,but is there any way to stain/polish/add a grain texture to mdf? I have made a blanket box from pine and mdf,and apart from applying feast watson stain with a rough paint brush,there is no grain effect at all on the mdf.I accept that i could have bought the veneered mdf,but the little grey cells were'nt working at the time of purchase!Any one got any ideas?...................................................Regards AL

Two things spring to mind, buy veneer and lay it on now second you can get a paint texturing kit that makes a woodgrain effect in paint. Not sure where to get the second but paint decorating places would be worth a go.

I imagine if you could spray a stain on you would end up with more even colouring, probably best to give it a coat of something first to slow the absorbtion (sp?) down a bit. Maybe Feast Watson Fungishield.
That graining idea is the go, looks very effective and supposed to be pretty straightforward after a little practice. You can buy special tools for it (I think bunnings had something in the craft aisle) or I think it can be done just with a brush. Try a craft shop or studio.
