Default steam heat stains on maple

Niece used timber slab table to steam-iron curtains on - have tried Howard's Restor-a-Finish in Golden Oak to deal with steam stains - used fine steel wool to
apply it but no improvement - originally bought the flitch table and chairs from Griffith Tablecraft NSW but they are no longer in business - I want to restore and sell the table and
chairs as downsizing to a smaller house and table is too large for my needs - seven and a half by three and a half feet - two inches thick. Any ideas on getting rid of the stains?
Considered having it professionally sanded but concerned how deep the steam stains have got to and whether this would be a waste of $.

What do you mean "stain" I would not haqve though steam would stain anything. Or has it removed the colour in that patch?
