    Default Telescope project

    Hi,
I am a newb to these forums and think the information here is excellent!
The trouble is there is sooo much to take in I dont know where to read first.

I am building a wooden telescope out of Hoop-pine plywood and wish to get some advice on how to finish my work. The plywood has some nice markings so I would like to bring them out without using a stain.

The telescope will be used outdoors at night when often it is dewey and wet so I need some protection from this. It also needs to be hard wearing to allow for the inevitable bumps and knocks fumbling around in the darkness!

From what I have read It seems like the Ubeaut products are very good so I will go with them.

The process I think is best is maybe:

    1. Use 1 coat of ubeaut sander sealer.
    2. Use 2-3 coats of ubeaut hard shellac.
    3. Rub in some eeee-wax
    4. Then finish with finishing wax.

Does this sound about right considering the criteria I mentioned above?

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

The last picture is a picture of a finished telescope, similar to the one I am making.

    Thanks!

Would probably only go with steps 1 & 2. With 2-3 coats of Shellac cutting back between each coat.

Alllow about 12-24 hrs between each coat and then about a week before subjecting it to the rigours of night air.

Id prefer not to have a white telescope as it can ruin your night vision ever so slightly.

It doesnt seem like ubeet have any distributors in South Asutralia anyway so I may as well forget the UIbeaut products!

I tried the numbers for Adelaide but it seems like these businesses have long ago vanished.
