    Default Best treatment for red ironbark deck?

    Hi folks, looking for a bit of advice here,

    I'm trying to find out what the best treatment for my deck would be. The boards are red ironbark (from Bowerbird) and I'm hoping to keep the red colour in the timber for as long as possible. I understand that this may require continual maintenance, but that's OK. Anything that lasts longer than six months would be a bonus though. I'd rather spend my summer drinking beer on the deck rather than maintaining it if possible.

    Now, after some asking around in stores and other places, I'm still not sure what the best stuff is. One place recommends a premium decking oil from Feast Watson or Intergrain. Another one says that the new products from Haymes (Dexpress or UVEC) are a bit more durable. Store number three says that the oil from Deck Doc (with Lanolin, claims to last longer and be more water repellent than normal oil) is the best.

    I'm prepared to pay top dollar for a good result, but to be honest I'm confused about what the best option is.

    Has anybody had a chance to do some good comparisons of the various options out there?

    Sorry to crack open a 6 year old thread guys…
    But has anyone had any experience with Deck-Doc?

    DECK-DOC premium timber and decking oil for durable, long-lasting protection.

    Sounds very promising.

    I have just spent nearly $300 on this product…

    Need to wary of a single review though?

    Anyone else used this stuff, I have heard good things from a couple of people…

    Tacky just means he applied too much, the black sounds like mould though

    I wouldn't base my decision on one review but in saying that it was the only mention of the product I could find other than this thread.

    Warnings on Deck Doc:
    - it let's the timber go grey very quickly.
    - the lanolin gives good water repellence long after the timber has gone grey. It will even repel future coatings so if you want to recoat with another product you have to sand your deck and start from scratch.

    Keep your timber away from anything with lanolin or silicone.

    I've tried several products over the past 10 years or so and can whole-heartedly recommend intergrain ultradeck as the longest lasting I've found.

    It's the only product used by these full time professional deck coaters:
    Decking Cleaning, Deck Restoration, Deck Staining Melbourne, Deck Wash . There's some good pics in their gallery of what you can expect.
