    Default water based stains

Does anyone know where Scan water based stains can be obtained? They were in powder form and I used them successfully for years when restoring furniture.

To my knowledge they are no longer available in Australia and haven't been for a good few years now. They were an excellent product that unfortunately found a slot in the deepest darkest corner of the too hard basket for most Aussies.

Do a search of the finishing forum (and others if you have the time) using Scan, water stain, water dye, and similar key words and you may find more info. I seem to recall that a private individual was bringing some into Aus a few years ago and it was posted in one of the forums.

    Hope this helps - Neil

Malvern Paint and Timber Finishes had a small quantity of a few
cclours a few months ago. They are most helpful.
They are in Malvern Rd, Malvern, Vic, opp Darling Rd. I can't put my hand on their card at the moment but will post it when I find the card.
I am chasing some No71 Modern Brown if anyone comes across any.
The guy in Queensland who had some stock is Peter and phone no is 07 5478 9324 - give him a call as he had some colors when I spoke to him some months ago
    Hope that helps

Try B&R fittings in Western Australia or J&A Watson in Victoria (they post anywhere).

Have found address and phone no for B & R in WA.
Any idea where Watsons are in Vic as I cannot find any reference to that name in metropolitan phone books
    Thanks

Sorry for not giving enough detail. Watson have a great on-line catalogue too, but I'd stick to u-beat products if possible as they are local, not UK stuff which is much more expensive. Good for fittings though. I have onlly bought stains from B&R but believe Watson may stock them. J&A Watson are now calledWatsonBrass and they are in NSW not Victoria. Sorry for the confusion.

I promised to post phone no for Malvern Paint & Timber Finishes - it is (03) 9885-2883 for both phone and fax. Jason Payne is very helpful.

I spoke to B & R Fittings in Subiaco on Friday. They do not have Scan stain but have a water stain that sounds similar. They will sell small quantities eg 50G and are prepared to post.

    Hope this helps
