Default Wattyl Grain Filler - bloody dear

I'm in the finishing stage of making a table from old Karri scaffold planks. Given their life they have lots of deep cracks in them. With past projects I have used the finishing laquer to fill the blemishes/minor cracks etc. With this table as there are way to many cracks to use the laquer alone I decided to get/use grain filler. My last use of a grain filler was 40 years ago. To date Wattyl is the only grain filler I've been able to fine. Here in Perth none of the Wattly (Solver) shops stock it so it had to be ordered in, the cost $33 per 376 gram tin (a pissy little tin). Thats right grams not litres, it appears to be sold by weight. One slight advantage its to be mixed/diluted 4 parts filler to one part turps or timber stain. I don't think I'll venture this way again.

There is a product called pafuki it is a flooring product used to fill large gaps in floor boards such as baltic etc. first the floor is sanded and the dust from sanding is mixed into a slurry and applied to fill the gaps and then re-sanded. I have never used the product for furniture personally but may be worth investigating its compatibility with your final finish. Just a thought.
    cheers

Timbermate 2kg White Interior Woodfiller I/N 1564126 | Bunnings Warehouse

2kg for $32, off the shelf in Bunnies. Also available in smaller tubs and many colours. Suitable as a grain filler. It gets a lot of lovin' from the timber floor sanding guys.
