    Question Wood Coating and Colors

    Hello Everyone:

My name is Jenn and I am new to this forum. I joined because I am interested in learning about wood coatings in particular. I do not know much at all about wood finishes, coatings or colors, but I would like to learn as much as I can from anyone who is willing to give me their expertise. I was hoping to specifically learn about wood coating trends. I have heard about colored coatings. Are they popular nowadays? Are they better than traditional coatings, or are they just a style? Who makes the best? Thanks for everyones help and patience!

    hi Jenn, welcome ...

there a many clolours around , but most are just a passing trend, you need to aim for original finishes , but with contempory style, the most wonderfull alltime colour that is both old and new is that which is achived by using black japan...as i am in the design industry, i am always up to date on what's out there...as for finishes , the more natural and original the better, go for shelac and beeswax , or at least something similar to that...may i ask what this is for , are you looking at starting a business, have you got furniture you want to finish, or are you just trying to add some style to you home...

Hi! and thanks for your response:

I am actually just doing some research on the topic. I know some co-workers who are interested in wood coating research, what the trends are, and just what is popular out there. We were interested in knowing what's new, and what's so great about what's new when it comes to colors in coats. You must have an interesting career. Design seems like a creative work to be in. I honestly don't know much at all about wood and paints, which is why I joined this forum. But it would be great knowledge to learn for the future (for buying, decorating and modeling a home). I just heard that colors in wood coatings were becoming popular, but I didn't really know if this was true because I do not own my own home yet. And I didn't even really know what it meant exaclty ... Do people ever approach you about wood coloring? Do you see any popular trends in what kinds of color people like more than others? What colors last? What do people look for in color? And these questions can go out to anyone interested. Thanks again for your response!
