Mac is looking for either veneers or small solid wood samples to be shipped to USA they are needed for use in finishing articles he writes

Any help would be greatly appreciated He is happy to pay for them but I reckon having your wood as the star in a finishing article gould almost be payment enough especially if you get a mention as donated by or supplied by, etc.

I'm sure he would be only too happy to do that if space allows.

Or you could just charge him a heap of money and retire to Surfers Paradise and look at your collections on the soft white sandy beach, etc, etc.

    Little help would be fantastic.

    Cheers - Neil

    Default A Big Thank You

    Neil & ,

I want to thank the both of you, I just sent a e-mail to see if we could work something out.

If anyone knows of a company that sells sets of domestic veneers or plywood in a box, I would appreciate the companies.

    Thanks again for your help.

Mac let us know what size pieces you're after
I could find Western Australian species: Sheoak (Allocasuarina fraserii), Jarrah (Eucalyptus marginata), Karri (Euc. diversicolour), Marri (Euc/Coymbia callophylla) and Tuart (Euc. gomphocephala).

I even have some small bits of a timber from the Northern Territory, locally known as Gutta percha (Erythrophleum chlorostachys) ... a beautiful zebra wood style feature.

Not concerned about payment ... just depending on the size pieces you're after, just cover the postage.

    Ramps,

Thanks for your generous offer, I find that 5" x 5" x 1/4" is an ideal size for finishing and for photographing, I will also use 2" x2" x 1/4" to show colored samples.

I find with the digital camera and the computer I can get many of the sizes that I need for printing and publishing.

Ramps, I want to thank you and all the others for your help. if and when I get any articles printed I will post them, I also, will try to get your names in the article, or I will at least try to get the magazines to mention the contributions of the finishers and woodworkers on the U-Beaut forum.

    Thanks again.

    Default Thank you...

    John,

I really appreciate your offer, you have some wonderfull woods.

I think I will have enough now to get by.

I think the magazine editor just wanted woods that could be gotten locally, and that the woodworkers are familar with.

    Thanks again for the offer.

no worries Mac, by locally do you mean in the US ?

there are several US exotic wood suppliers dealing in various aussie species but the more interesting types of wood are only available from here..

just to help out with a list of timbers for MacS:

I think I'll be able to do something along the lines of:
    pink bloodwood
    silky oak
    sassafras
    plain tas myrtle
I'll try for purple heart, but it won't be 5" on one dimension
    camphor laurel

I can't remember what else I've got stashed away, but there's bound to be something

all insect and bark free of course

    Hi Mac,

I bought one of the Gunn's Craftman packs for use as headstock veneers on my guitars. The pack includes a nice selection of Aussie woods. Check it out here:
