Was all set to finish off the No. 2 build this afternoon, everything was in place.

Didn't turn out as I'd hoped unfortunately, got a bit excited with a nut slotting file and went just a bit too far. Throw that one away... Since Aus Post has closed down for the weekend there's not much chance of getting hold of another blank till next week. I'll have a quick search around the local music shops over the weekend but I'm not confident of finding aything useful, so ALS will probably get another order. Think I'll keep some spares from now on.

As a consolation, I thought since I'm pretty happy with the fretwork and it seemed to play ok (even with the bung nut), I'd oil up the fretboard and take some photos. Here it is.

And just for a bit of fun, here is a fellow whom has decided to camp out in the backyard just outside the shed door this week. Hopefully he'll hang around for a while.

The guitar is looking great Steve, bet you cant wait to finish of the set up.

There is a fine line between just right and throwing them isn't there Steve? I went through two at each end. 2 x nut and 2 x saddle. I have a spare bone nut and would be happy to express you one,the post office is next door to my work and I will be there at 10 am , I dont know if it's open in the morning but if not first thing Monday, and I owe you one,so just pm me the address

    I like the Lizard.
I was in Merimbula visiting friends once ,and was up the end of their back yard with their 7 yo son Kane, I spotted a big Blue tongue next to a pile of wood and pointed it out to Kane, he suprised me by instantly leaping at it, and grabbed it by the back of the neck and walked back to me ,we checked it out for a while, the lizard hissing , hanging there almost half the length of Kane.
    So what next ?
I said ,are you going to show your Mum? we looked around to see his Mum talking with two other Mums down the other end of the yard and Kane walks off , as he approaches he says " Mum " they can hear him but were in the middle of a conversation and kept talking .
He keeps walking "Mum " same response .
He's at their feet "Mum look what I "
" aaarrrrrggggh " all three jump with a scream, " where did you get that "
I'm up the other end of the yard having a chuckle, and will for ever at the thought of that day

    cheers Rob

Great Blue Tongue story, I love those guys.

Thanks for the offer of a nut blank Rob, after visiting 4 local music shops and a guitar repair business I finally found what I was looking for. I bought a blank off a couple of guys in a music shop who pretty much had no idea what it was but recalled seeing something like what I had in my hand, hanging on the wall somewhere...

This build seems to have dragged on for a long time so I am glad to finally have it completed. The Burdekin Plum I used for the fretboard didn't hold onto the frets anywhere near as well as the Mulga used on the first one. A lot more work was needed to level and re-crown the frets after they were installed as there was some slight lifting. The Plum does look good though and I'll be looking to use it again for sure.

    Here's a few more photos.

A couple of photos of No. 1 and No. 2 together. They're pretty similar and though I was able to overcome most of the difficulties encountered during the first build, the second one just threw up another set of problems.

As always, it's been great to have the support of you guys and the help provided is much appreciated. Build No. 3 is still up in the air at the moment as it's time to get another furniture project out of the way for the wife...

Thanks again for all the help.

Looks great Steve, I especially like the look of it in the bottom left picture with that back drop that matches it. Did the plum just darken up by itself ? or did you oil it ?

    Thanks Rob.

Just a couple of applications on lemon oil for the fretboard and it came up good.

Thanks guys, I appreciate the comments.

Looking back over the 2 builds so far I can see that I've really slacked off in the recording of important data.

One interesting point, despite the fact that I thought I was building a more lightly constructed guitar the second time around, is that the actual weight difference between the two measured this evening is just 19 grams. A variation of just 0.9%.

I doubt there is any significance to these numbers but it did surprise me a little.

I just wanted to chirp in to say that instrument looks absolutely spectacular! The black-heart is such gorgeous stuff, I haven't really ever heard an instrument played from it. It looks like it'd have a nice mids tone.

I'd love to see a video or hear a recording of it being played!
