how are you mounting the chassis?
ray c

been thinking about this for a while....
the way the chassis is made, theres really no way too drill mounting holes in the chassis to mount it....
so i thought i would make up 3 L shaped plates, rivet them to the top of the chassis,
when its slid into the headshell, i will just screw the plates to the inside walls of the head....
unless someone has a better idea?

got my bench....
from the railway workshop over here that my mate from across the road works at,
made in the 40's , the most of it is cedar with oregon (i think) legs lol
has a tin top on it, that doesnt matter as i plan to put an mdf top across it....
notice it slots in that space perfectly (luckilly i measured to make sure it would fit... *COUGH COUGH* )
but most of all... it has a pretty damn cool swivel vice that will go well with my neck jig, especially when shaping fret ends... just spin it around to where i want it
pulling the old bences out was a pain in the assssssss... had to snap a few old bolts
will make up a cabinet to go under the new bench.... mdf... long drawers maybe, we shall see...
gives me a chance to rearrange the workshp a bit more.. yay

went and bought some Mdf for the top of my bench...
the idea is to have as much surface area as i can without taking up the whole workshop... lol
i think i have added 100mm or so in depth...
the drawers are a plus... can never have too many drawers...
i also have to remember to drill the holes for the vice before i screw the mdf down...
i will also put a capping along the front edge as there is an inch or so of mdf overhanging the front lip....
will also be interesting to see what timber lies under the paint on the drawer fronts...
i decided to scrape the paint off the legs and frame....
i chose to scrape so i could keep the dnts and scratches so the bench still has the old worn type appearance....
nothing flashy...
mark the notches
notch
the fit? Perfect...
was going to cut the other one, but dinner was ready
got a set of brass plates.... dont like this font, waiting for ne ones with my original font design
i also went to bunnings, they sell two types of jeweler type saws.... a cheapy green framed one, and a chrome one... looked to be a bit small though, probably 3inches between the frame and blade...they are both fairly expensive, i think the chrome was 40ish
and they did have a few packs of various blades....
ill have to grab one and some blades and see how i go...
