Default alternative filler for shellac rubber

I came across something today that made an excellent filler for my shellac rubbers. I ran out of cheesecloth right in the middle of a shellac session, ( thought sure I had another package) so I went up to the misses med cabinet looking for some surgical gauze, figuring she ought to have some being married to a woodworker. I came across these cotton discs that apparently she uses to apply makeup, ( always thought that the ladies just used their fingers to smear that stuff on) it said on the package 100% cotton so I gave it a go and they worked better than anything I`ve tried before. Nice and soft so they shape easily into a ball with no wrinkles and cheap on top of it all. If she notices her supply going down I`ll just tell her she just getting older and using more of them, she`ll buy that story don`t you think? For sanding shellac I found the Abralon sanding discs by Mirka to be ideal for shellac, with the soft foam back you can apply some oil to the face of the disc ( don`t go overboard with oil, it doesn`t take much) and the oil will be held in the foam and distributes through the face as you sand. I don`t have to constantly reach for the oil bottle. Just store them in a zipplock bag when done. I use them by hand and with an orbital sander, they seem to last forever.

Indeed a brave man to put that statement in writing - your New year may tender some other surprises for you. Thanks for the tips though!

Yeah but I was just joking, I`ll have to get my own supplies as I`ve been forwarned about taking anything else of her`s to use in my shop especially kitchen utensils. Fortunately the wife and I have a sense of humor about our looks changing with age, I still love her wrinkles and all.

I've gone through the whole gamut of core materials for my munecas and have found the packs of medical gauze pads the best choice. They're just the right size for my munecas and there's no cutting to size.

I`m planning to try the medical gauze, came across another fellow on YouTube that likes it and I`m sure it`s less expensive than quality cheesecloth. Can`t believe what that and good material for the covers is selling for now, I found it`s less expensive to buy new white T-shirts for cover material. Thanks for the tip Mike

I gave up trying to find affordable linen of a fine enough weave and went to T shirt material.

Old pillowcases and sheets at vinnies, it will surprise you what is there. The trick is to get the staff who receive the donations not to send it to be cut up for industrial rags.

Great idea, I`m going to check into that, I just picked up some surgical gauze for filler and it was excellent, won`t have to steal any more of the wifes supplies.
