kalimba build
Hi all, I want to try making a kalimba. What I would like to know is what type of wood would be best. I would like to make one with a hollow box, not just the plank type.
I am in Canada, so something close to home would be best.
I was thinking if it worked out I would try to grow some gourds next summer, but would like to get started now.
Something like this one, without the pick up
Hugh Tracey Alto Kalimba WITH PICKUP - THE KALIMBA MAGIC SHOP
Cheers Ron.

Hi Ron,
Canada has some of the best musical instrument timber in the world. I'd consider Spruce soundboard with a Maple body. To get really wild get some Bearclaw Spruce and some bookmatched Quilted Maple for the back."We must never become callous. When we experience the conflicts ever more deeply we are living in truth. The quiet conscience is an invention of the devil." - Albert Schweizer
