    yes stu...

my glue bottles dissapear all the time... same with tools... a few have gone walkabouts.....

so iv started keeping my better tools in my room
aswell as my glues and finish products....

either my dads knocking stuff off.... or my mum is taking them to let the neighbours "borrow".....

so im not letting any more good tools and stuff out of my sight

but the AB and/or ABoland appears on all my tools and things whether written or engraved.....
just something i picked up from my grandfather...

oh and im glad to see progress on this too LOL.....
    im so lazy......

    any wooden binding experts here?

I'd lend you my bending iron, but haven't got my name engraved on it yet.

oh i see how it is!!!!!

    you mean mean man....

    im not your friend anymore

    hahaha

    back on subject....
id be happy to put my name on it for you and keep it here to save you space
    lol....

ok.... back to the real subject lol......
i have been up since 8 planing/sanding/scraping down the top to a flat surface....

and after all that im standing here scratching my head thinking which side i will use as the top LOL......

i guess once its glued down no one will ever know if the underside should have been the one showing

    hmmm....
im going to go sit on my work bench and stare at it for a bit more and decide what to do...

in the mean time.... i forgot all about a bloody fingerboard....

and looks like the bloke i bought the bridge and machine heads from is screwing me around.....
hmmmm will send a few more emails and see if he replies....
otherwise im 60 bux out and bridge and tuner-less

oh and i need to go to bunnies to get another sheet of mdf.... this time it will be for templates

well i decided on the top.... lol

so i drew on the shape using the centre join on the blanks as my guide.. and did a rough cut around each one....
(some people dont like to do it this way.... well... im andrew and i do it my way.)

and glued them together using two locator pins (aka: pop rivets haha) one in the neck cavity and one where the bridge will be.... ( the template screws will most likely use the same holes)

i realised i need some more clamps
i like to go crazy with clamps lol....

note: im finding titebond peels off my fingers/hands easier than pva

i also did a sneeky and routed an 8cm long cavity for the wires to run from pup to control cavity before i glued the top on

and holy crap my arms are sore from leveling that silky oak
so hopefully the missus will drive me to bunnings tomorrow so i can get some crap to start on these templates

    oh and pics will follow.....

4 in-line pointy headstock I reckon. I like the narrow waist and wide end - looks sexy!

i find ply is better than mdf for templates. the mdf sands quickly but dulls the sandpaper even quicker, making the job take longer. just my oppinion though

4 inline will most likey be the way i go....
maybe just my version of the ESP headstock
(like on my V.... which is pretty much the same as the ESP headstock but i reshape it so it has straight string pull as opposed to the treble strings fanning out wierd.... if you look at the esp pointy headstocks you will see what im talking bout lol)

its looking good rough cut.... cant wait to see it after i make the template and run it over the router....

and we will also see how good my hand leveling on the top was when i get the clamps off.... im guessing there may be 1 or 2 spots that will be crappy...
in that case i will cover that up wth binding....
i think i need a thicknesser quick smart.... and a bandsaw....

    hmm ply....
    i could do ply...
do they have ply at bunnings?
im only using the mdf cause a fairly big sheet only costs me 15bux... and slots straight in the back of the car with the back seats down lol

i think i would get a bit frustrated with ply ....
i can see the edges chipping as i go at them with a file lol....

Looking good Andrew . That backing material for your sander is Graphite impregnated slip cloth and is available through Carbatec.

good progress so far man. I must say, after looking at the pics of sawing the tassie oak in half, I decided my day was probably better than yours lol. I spent it doing a stupid bookcase which wasnt fun!

On the upside, i went exploring under my house(only bought the place in october so havent really looked under there) and hello wats that hiding in the corner? the old owner left an old wooden toolbox full of some old tools!!!

There were 2 planes, one big one and one pretty small one. about 5 chisels 2 or 3 of them razor sharp coz they had covers on them. a bunch of pliers and things like that and some screws, a cool little hand saw and some other stuff.

I was stoked about the chisels and planes. My dad is gonna sharpen them all for me (i dont wanna ruin them) so hopefully they'll come in handy. They all look really good quality!

Oops sorry for hijacking your thread!!!!!

floody... theres consiquences for hijacking my thread.....
now you have to send me a plane
    lol

i love finding stuff under houses.... all i found under mine was the back hatch of an olds mobile and its floor pannels, springs and axles....

    you got it good lol

note: there was some bloody loud thunder outside just then

From memory Andy B is out your way Floody. It pelted down over here around the same time ... near Cronulla. Anyways ... enough of the weather report ....

You're making progress now Andrew ... looking good.

And lol on the walking tools ... my sons would always "borrow" bits and pieces and I'd find them on the garage floor ... or on the driveway!! But now my eldest has his own tool collection that surpasses mine and I occasionally threaten to "borrow" them from him.

they are alot smaller now, and theres all this paying to get in crap going on ...
used to walk in through one of the bird watching spots down the road... climbing through bush that looked like the blair witch stuff lol... then spend the day sliding down dunes :P

Strathfield?? Why was I thinking you're out Floody's way?? Senility must setting in. My wife's sister's family are over there ... so I get over there once in a blue moon. Where's the Bunnings?? The big one at Milperra I spose ... or over towards Five Dock??

And Kurnell ... yeah, anyone who goes out there slides down the dunes. Son # 3 is on his Ls so we occasionally head out there to rack up some driving hours ... it's 120 hours these days ... it was only 50 for his older brothers. Only 50!! When I did mine I did 4 or 5 lessons (no driving at all with my parents) and I was out on the road!!

    But I digress ...

It's looking like a build now!!!

    lol yes strathfield

bunnings... ussually go to the one at fivedock

i got my L's just before they brought in the 120 hours rule....
i mean... just before.... i went for the test a few weeks before and failed 2 questions lol..
then i went back 2 days before the rule change! and i passed ...
problem was... they changed the questions already... so i was lucky to pass lol

the other problem, and why i never got my L's sooner... have no one to drive with
i got about 10 hours up with my mums friend.. but theres not much else i can do sadly enough

    enough about that lol.....

    ummmmmmmmmmmmm
still no clue on the wood the back of the body is made of?

i took it out of the clamps and was very surprised at how heavy and solid feeling it was...
iv never had that feeling with a blank before....
just felt so nice and smooth and unbreakable LOL

the titebond looks like its doing good...

my planes have had a fair workout...
and so have my arms... so i think tomorrow will be my day of full rest and relaxation... im buggered

oh i also have to think about the control cavity,
    what shape it will be...
    how big it will be....
and im using the offcut to make the cover so the grain should match up nicely

i have to remember to leave enough room for a switch incase i do manage to get my hands on a spool of pickup wire... or another pickup.... i wont drill the hole for the switch though...
    will have volume and tone.

i need to start thinking about the neck soon.....
    need to get a fingerboard,
    i have a neck blank,
and i will be inlaying my mates initials somewhere along the fretboard....
probably 12th fret.... or stretching across the 12th fret (from 11th to 13th) if that makes sense....
need to design that inlay, gotta keep with the metal theme

im having a think about the bevels....
i will either bevel the edges or i will carve it.... will have to wait and see the body when i get it out of the clamps on monday ....

also need to do some more thinking in regards to the headstock....

lol i dont know if many people read my whole post......
its more of a reminder for me, so i do all this stuff and not leave things out
