Thanks Floody. Here are a few more pictures. I have settled with 5mm for the top and 6 mm through the area where the bridge will stand. It has been rough sanded with the orbital sander and today the f holes where located. First I drill a hole drilled in either end of the f hole shape and then use the coping saw to roughly cut out the shape. I will then finish off with sanding sticks. Looking good and the top rings sweetly when tapped.

    Cheers

Time now to make the bracing. In the picture below you can see how the rough shape is transfered to the brace blanks. It is trickey to get the braces to fit perfectly. I use the belt sander to get them close to the arch and then sandpaper is laid out inside the arch where I slowly sand the bottoms of the braces to the form of the arch. It is a time consuming job! Unfortunately I don't have a picture of the braces being glued in as the picture I did take was very blurred. I used the go bar deck to glue in the braces.

Here are some pictures and thanks for looking

Now it's starting to look like a guitar. Closed the box this morning. I had to use the aircon as the weather has jumped a few degrees up here and so has the humidity.

    Here are a few pictures:

Fitted the neck this week and it was a better experience than the first one. I am waiting on some hardware for this guitar and soon as it arrives I will be assembling it. I have a good feel about this one and it should sound good.

    Thanks for looking

I have been spending somework time on the archie the past few days. At this stage I was not going to bother with a back of the headstock headplate. I decided it needed one so I booked matched a nice piece of queensland maple and I'm glad I did as it finished off the headstock nicely. It adds extra strength to that area also. The tailpiece and tuners turned up so will dry fit those before the shellac finish process. The neck fits nicely and it lines up with the body. I've been slack and used a stew mac ebony pick guard and a gold pickup is going to be glued to it so it sits at the end of the fingerboard. Just a few more things to organise and then a final sand and the shellac process to perform.

    Some more pics for you.

    Thanks for looking

Ray: I like to French Polish my guitars. The Queensland Kauri is a very fine grained timber and it doesn't need pore filling. I use blonde shellac flakes and industrial metholated spirits and apply with a rubber. Usually it takes around five or six sessions where a session takes four hours and I go around the guitar about four times. Between each session I do a very light sand to level out the finish and get rid of any hairs, dust or shellac runs. I have a Kent Armstrong pickup for this guitar, the one that is glued to the pickguard.

Dayvo: Thank mate for the comments.

I'm on holidays at the moment down in Bendigo, Victoria to spend a week with my Dad who is turning 90 years old. He is a real trouper and it is so good to be able to spend sometime with him.

    Cheers
