dadovfor****Great!!! On your way there you can collect me and then Andy B!!**

Oh, great, guys))We`ll make a good company))Do you live somewhere in between Rockdale and Marrickville? Not a problem, I`ll pick you up, we can take your ute, but- you shop for yourself

I`ll introduce you to Dave- he`s a nice man, he knows what we want- he did a study at Gilet guitars, he makes Classical guitars himself so far ( and really good ones- I saw his work in progress),and- the best thing- he always hides some nice wood for guys like me and you))

The rest is up to you))

    PS-and there is a bit of a secret about pricing.But I can`t post it here.Hint-offcuts))
Better to discuss it via PM.

I` ve used Silky Oak as a top for my second build.Still have lots of offcuts around..
I don`t like this timber.Very hard to finish....maybe a had bad pieces...looks nice, but not perfect for my taste..Like, there are still some bumps, doesn`t matter how long you sand it..and for neck- I don`t know...I don`t trust it)Maybe I`m wrong))

    silky is soft...
and i would say you will have a fair amount of tear out while shaping it,
necks are always a pain to shape

    Hi Arncliffe,

I reckon you have posted an interesting query here......oz timber similar tonally to rock maple? Hmmmm......I reckon Tas Myrtle is a good start as others have stated. I understand maple to be used as a bright timber to compliment warm timbers such as mahogany. If you could get hold of GIDGEE or MULGA or WANDOO or BRIGALOW or MYALL I reckon you'd have to be in with a show as these are used in OZ as fretboard timbers and are very hard....maple is also used as a fretboard timber as we all know.

I've often wondered whether there is an Oz timber in this category also. Bob, any suggestions other than Tas Myrtle?

Good luck with the bass Arncliffe.

    Default Aussie timber for neck

Hi Jon, first Happy New Year.
As for tasmanian timbers suitable for necks, I have customers that use myrtle, blackwood, silver and black wattle, Sassafras, Eucalyptus, celery top.
a lot of my customers are doing laminated necks. another couple of timbers of interest are leatherwood and horizontal both tried with great success.
    Cheers,Bob

EtherealGuitars -thanks))I saw your website, you make beautiful guitars)

I would change tone sounds samples thou..They kill everything.I`ve listened a few bass
sound clips, and I could only guess how beautiful bass itself is behind ..hm..not professional playing.I can play it for you if you wantI`m pro bass player since I was 18,
I`m 50 now, still playing, still gigging ...can make you (just for fun))soundclips sounding like Wooten-Jaco-Clarke-Miller-Larry Graham, Flea, Shihan...you name it))
And, I`ve listened Toneflow 12 String very first clip, clean. It`s slightly out of tune.Sound of your product-it`s the most important presentation (i think)), better presentation- you win))

Ps-oh..those chambered bodies you have on your website...Amazing..made me thinking ...I`ll try to do something like that with my build))

Thanks for your kind words Arncliffe and I do appreciate the feedback regarding the tone clips. I will be re-recording most of these in the near future. Most of them are too long and I also need to reduce the file sizes.

    HNY to you to Bob

    Default Aussie timber for neck

    How would this work.?
Old growth eucalyptus very light cream in colour, very dense species as the centre of the neck and then laminate nice figured timber with good colour top and bottom.
Interested to see what you all feel about this.
    Regards,Bob

Sorry, I didn`t know where to post this question...I`m going to get some burl in a couple of weeks from one of my friends.I don`t know anything about it- what`s the name color ect..
All I know- it`s going to be around 600mm long, 200mm wide and 40 mm thick.
Where in Sydney I can slice it to make at least two bookmatched boards?I talked to the guy at Anagote, and he `s not sure their bandsaw is good enough for burl...

I get all my billets resawn at Gilet guitars in botany. They rip it and finish it with a beast of a drum sander so the tops are ready to go. Don't know if they will do burl, however worth a call. They charge by the hour. Go and riffle through their stock while you are there. They have some real nice fretboards. Yum. here is their website

    Gilet Guitars : Official Site

    Cheers,

    Peter

If he is resawing high figured blackwood, resawing burl should not be a problem.
