Default Aussie Timber for Neck-through Bass Build

I've found it reasonably difficult to track down affordable standard neck timber (maple etc) in the right size for a neck-through bodied bass, so I have decided to go with Australian timbers as they seem to be a lot more abundant in those sizes. Any ideas as to what I should use as an alternative to a Fender neck style of maple? The body wings are going to be foam with carbon cloth covering and epoxy finish, much like a surfboard but a heck of a lot stronger, so I need something with decent balance to it. Any help would be much appreciated

I got maple in the correct size to laminate a 5 piece neck through from Lasarides here in Brisbane. My next one will probably be Pacific Maple (Aussie) as I have heard it is good for necks.

The other day I described to my daughter how to find something in the garage by saying "It's right near my big saw". A few minutes later she came back to ask: "Do you mean the black one, the green one, or the blue one?".

There is a lot of australian timbers used for necks.
Check my website link below go to tonewood in stock button this will bring up tonewood data, this page will give you a bit of info about some of the tasmanian species. I have customers who use blackwood, myrtle, eucalyptus, wattle, and sassafras for necks.
    Regards, Bob

Thanks Bob, I have actually been eyeing off some of the wood on your website for a while now, but wasn't quite sure of how suitable some of them would be for making a neck. What are the tonal properties of the sassafras and myrtle?

You would think that they would all reply to one thread Andy instead of 3 threads on necks.
P.S. Have you done anything about my advice to you about Boland Guitars.?
