You could always look at it through a mirror. That may stem the pain.

How thin is your logo vinyl Stu and how do you 'encapsulate' it ... just layers and layers of nitro?

I did a water-slide logo on my daughter's build and it wasn't too difficult to get enough build up on that. But for our last build we used computer cut vinyl and sealed it in with nitro, but even with heaps of coats it's not level. Which isn't a drama really 'cos it just gives the logo an embossed feel which we're happy with ... you can see what I mean below.

But I'm interested in how you approach it.

have you finished that yet? you had to change the string tree and make truss and cav covers from memory??

I made some cavity covers for it out of storage container dividers that I found at Bunnings. They worked out fine. But yep, I still need to do a truss rod cover and change the string tree to a black one.

My Andrew plays this guitar the most so doing any more work on it is sort of on the back-burner until I build him another one to be obsessed with. I will get around to it one day. We also replaced the pickup in it a few weeks back, but that's about all.

    Too many other priorities.

Davidov, The computer cut vinyl decals I use are fairly thin yet still need burying under nitro.

A typical refinish minus the grainfill if at all required.......................

I start by shooting 2 thinned coats of nitro over the whole guitar then apply the decal to the headstock.
After that I'll spray 2 more coats of nitro over everything, then a mild flatten back with a block to remove fuzz.
Shoot another 4 coats. Totally flatten back with block.
Shoot the last 2 finisher coats and air dry for four weeks.

Around 10 coats of clearcoat nitro at a ratio close to 60% nitro to 40% solvent for a complete guitar.

This is really nice. This is my kind of 'almost' perfect Tele build. Can't wait to see it finished and I will be looking in the mirror.

Hey Stu, can I share this link to the guys at the Tele forum?

    Thanks guys.

All done bar a final polish and check over and then she's Michael's baby.
I'll be taking the photos on Saturday when I'll finally get some spare time.

Been struggling this week to get time on assembly.

Telejazzer- you can link to this thread if you wish. Thanks for asking.
