Thanks Ralph, I was inspired by your work.
Yeh Andrew it's a decent weight, but do ya think it's a little on the heavy side?

what amp/s will you be running this through when you post sound clips when its done?
that brings to mind another question.... whats happening with pickups?

I haven't decided on the hardware yet, I'd like to go with gold but I'll need to sift through the half decent hardware and the cra@&#^&%p and cost will unfortunately be a major factor.
A music shop was kind enough to donate a couple of trashed epiphone chrome humbucker's in fairly good nick to use as templates for the pockets so I may just have a go at rewinding them
I'll probably make the pickup rings out of timber, I've already made the cover plates out of polished brass they blend well with the dark wood, see in earlyer post.
Any suggestions on hardware brand, quality or price would be appreciated.
Also looking for local place to bye pickup wire and magnets, suggestions here would be good too.
regards

oh no....
not this again......
do you know how long it took me to find a spool?
lol....
i never found anywhere in australia to buy alnico bar magnets or anything....
maybe MickB will see this and offer you a set of magnets for a few $....
unless someone else knows where they can be found lol...
google australian copper wire suppliers.... there is a couple... but they dont seem to want to reply to emails, so i assume they dont want to sell single spools....
but its worth throwing a few emails out i guess... never know...
otherwise you wil have the go the stewmac route....

Thanks Aussie but I think I must have inadvertently swallowed the blue bill when the thought of building my own LP entered my head .

pickup rings
Does anyone know the radius of the humbucker pickup rings to suite an LP carve top?
I'd like to mach the carve to the rings if I can.
I could probably get by with side view pics if anyone has any, then I can re size them to scale in photo shop.
regards

naa....
do this...
grab a bit of sandpaper... like 120 or something and some carpet tape (thin double sided)
tape the sandpaper to the top of your guitar and sand the radius into the bottom of each pup ring....
the radius' will be perfect! lol
thats the way they do the bridges on mandolins and arch tops

Hey what a brilliant idea, thanks Andrew, But what if the rings are made of metal

i thought you said you were making them out of wood......
you lied to us?!?!?!?!
there will be consiquences!
if they are metal then how are you going to put a radius on? file?
if thats the case then you can get one of those things... you know those things.... the the the.... one of them copy things...
lol i forget the name!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
its like steel with a row of thin (1mm radius?) steel bars, nd you press it against something and the bars move and mould around the shapeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee......
lol
or are you looking to buy a comercial set with a radius in them already?
if thats the case... good luck getting a set that match your custom build lol
