First build
ok.. I dont know if this is working..
I tried to add to a thread I previously posted but it hasnt worked so I thought I'd just start this one instead...
ok.. So finally I started my first build..
Firstly I would like to state that I have no woodwork or handy man experience.. in fact until this week I have had no experience using a router and had a fear of powertools.. because Im unco.. and will probably lose a finger....
I decided on recessing my TOM instead of doing the neck angle...
so I made my templates all from scratch.. heaps of measuring and planning as I'm sure you're all aware..
Then bought a block of Brazilian Mahogony and started hacking...
routed the neck pocket first then rough cut the body with a jigsaw.. yes.. I am too poor at the moment to get a bandsaw... but if you can recommend one thats small as I have size restrictions, that will do the job, please let me know...
then I routed the body shape off of my template...
did a rough sand with a drum sanding drill bit on my drill press and viola!
tomorrow I rout the pickups, control and bridge cavities..
I'll post more when I do it!

Good work so far mate. Keep it up.
A jigsaw will get u by fine. But once u do make the step up to a bandsaw, u will wonder how u used a jigsaw for so long lol. I cut a body with a jigsaw the other day cos I was too lazy to switch blades on ny bandsaw. It was horrible!

Hey there, I really love the body shape that you've designed. It looks like it'll be a comfortable play and nicely balanced weight-wise. Look forward to keeping an eye on this thread!

I am in the same boat as you. I have been wanting to build an electric for a long time. I am finally starting to aquire the parts and materials to do so. I have a couple of tools such as a drill press and band saw along with various chisels and what not.
Your 'diving in' has encouraged me to just go for it.
