All glued up this morning.
Leave it for a couple of days now and smooth the edges on teh body template.
Starting to think about getting some of the coat of shellac off this veneer. She's rough around the edges, but the center that will act as the cap for the top of the guitar is solid as far as I can tell. Must clean her up - there's some real detail in that grain.
More in a couple of days fellas.
Cheers - and have a great Xmas all.
Manny.

Glued Blanks Looking Good. Im leaving them for another day. I sanded the shellac off the face of the cap that Im going to use. The cap is 14 mm thick, so Im going to have to trim the 50mm blanks down to 26mm - assuming a telecaster (from memory) is 40mm thick. If I can plane down the cap (from the back by 5-7 mm - may be better suited.
Here's the sanded cap:
Note the scar at the left top corner....hmmm.....the grain and veneer were shot at the other end of the board so I had to use this end. If I cant sand and fill it out, I may use a modified Deluxe pick guard to hide it.
And here it is cut - about 4 millimeters outside the line. I didnt want to split the veneer with the crappy jig saw I have. I did manage a tiny tear at the bottom of the horn. Just over the line but I reckon I can sort that one out.

That top is the goods . It is going to be one sexy tele. I thought I would never say that teles are sexy so I'd better hurry up and post this before I take the comment back about teles.
What are you going to finish it with?
Cheers,
Peter

Pete,
Dunno yet. Its for my 10 yo son...and like all 10 year olds he changes his mind so much. I know he'd like a sunburst finish on it...we'll see.
I have the offcuts, so I was thinking of trying a black stain to get the "stretch marks" dark - sand off again and then wipe over with a deep red stain - I definitely want a high gloss finish over the top of that to finish up.
We'll see....Im still a long way away...and Im making some decisions as I go.
