    Default New Build 7 String

Andy, Wise saying never ever under estimate yourself.
Don't ever say that you can not compete with Stu or anyone else just don't have this thought in your head, or this will stop you straight away.
Take your time on your next build and aim to do the best you can.
And one of these days when you can manage to pull some of that money out of your wallet I will sell you some magic wood to build that special custom Bass guitar, that you don't need to have a singer on stage.
    the wood sings its self.
    Cheers Bob

That's it in a nutshell, Bob. Never doubt yourself, Andy or anyone else.
Nothing I'm doing is any better than anyone else here, and the great thing is the fact that we're all in it to share what we've learnt from others.

The contest is within, to improve on each build, and to share the knowledge too.

The idea of design is to garner ideas from different places and build them into a well thought out design with those different elements amalgamating into something which makes something greater than its parts. There are so many guitars out there that have mixed elements that don't flow together and that can be overcome by going through many options at each stage and discounting those that don't gel and taking up those that do.

Build as slowly as you have to to get things right , speed follows later.

The Aussie lutherie community is a small one and pretty cohesive, so if there is an idea
you've seen another builder pull off that is relatively fresh, show the courtesy of asking permission
to use that design element . I've asked others where I've felt it has been a signature design
of theirs and have also been asked from others for their use of things I rely on as being my 'thing' too.
It's amazing how much respect you feel for those that ask permission whether it's
a legal neccessity or not, it's just common courtesy.

Sorry for getting a little deep.

    Default New Build 7 String

Spot on master, O Wise one.
After spending 6 years on and off at Uni Sculpture, woodworking, desigh, photography, etc, never ever completed a full course on any subject.
But that was not the point, the point was to learn what I needed and thats what life is all about to keep learning, finding new ways to do things and sharing you idea for others to learn and no doubt about it Stu this is some thing you do well.
And as you point out ask permission its a common courtesy.
This is what we call manners there is not much of them about these days I am sorry to say, but there is a lot of members in this forum who have good manners and you are one.

Where here to learn and share.
    Cheers Bob

    we have template

    baseplate sitting in it

    comparison

since the body blank im thinking of using was rough cut for a tele....
i decided to do a quick random sketch and see if i could fit a double cut on the blank....

maybe i will go with a single cut... but for now im going to try and get a double cut out of it since single cuts arent my thing

did i say cut enough? lol

i think i will be working on some templates this week, as i am waiting for friday to go pickup some wood for the neck...
    mmm rock maple
