regardless of whether you think you can cut that design out or not, I still think you
should give it a go. What's to lose? nothing
What's to gain ?.............experience, patience, control and learning your limits through having a go.
I know if it was me, I'd try and pull it off in one piece before I resort to making dust.
It would look brilliant in one piece if it came out.

You'd be surprised how easy inlay is. I bet now that you've given guitar building a go it is easier than you originally thought. Even if you do break it, it's no big deal, you'd be surprised how minor it is, as a break is a perfect fit back together.
Sweet idea with the heart monitor thing. Better do it quickly before the idea gets stolen.
See if you can spot the break... there's two by the way

bunnings are now selling jewelers (piercing) saws and blades. I bought one and they look pretty decent. Think of shell as tough, brittle plastic and treat it the same way peterbrown is completely and utterly correct in his statement that they match back up perfectly if you snap them. The other thing is that it is made up of layer upon layer of subtly different colours, so a break can also stand out, but still look fine.
Another suggestion would be jewelery makers silver. You can buy it in wire lengths and fit it to your slot. I believe Perry Ormsby used it on his "vine" guitar.
Hey Perry, if you're out there, is that right???
Look up lapidry on google, there is somewhere in Oz that sells it, but I cant remember where...Cheers!Mongrel

I'd liked this idea when I saw it.

Gotta make sure it fits with the design though, otherwise could look a little busy or like a "vine of life design".

^ i was thinking of doin that with the heartbeat at 3,5,7,9,12 etc except i dont have enough pearl and i've always wanted a guitar with inlay at 12 only. might try that for another time.
a little update, cut out the headstock. cant get any pics cos my phone's buggered and mum brought the digi cam with her to europe.
the drill press is playing up again with the spline falling out. i gota give carbatec a call and see if they can put an end to this problem.
