My First Build - King V style custom
Hi everybody, I just got the wood today for my first build.
2 pieces of african mahogany and 1 piece rock maple.
It arrive in pretty rough condition, gota get a planer bit for the router on the weekend and make it nice and smooth. I've sanded the edges for gluing nice and smooth, and cut the right wing out with a jigsaw.
I'll cut the left wing out tomorow and plane it down after i get the bit on saturday.
but for now, could someone please tell me how to upload pics directly to the forum without using imageshack and such?
thanks

That's just roughsawn, which is how they cut it wet, dry and stack it.

Sure! But it needs thickness planing. I like to take off equal amounts each side. That way, any internal tensions are more balanced. Right now, it's what - maybe 25-26mm? With a separate fingerboard of about 6mm you will probably be taking the maple down to around 20mm. That's assuming a bolted-on neck.
To machine it I can point you at two people; one I've mentioned to you a couple of times already. If you're out west (say, past Blacktown) I could send you to a mate in Springwood. But you really will be best getting it machined up by someone who understands guitar making.

thanks addo, i'll try asking my school if i can use the thicknesser.
archer: yeh i've been planning this for a while, got really excited today when i got the wood. i'm using bloodwood for the fretboard, preslotted 25.5' scale 24 frets.
probably wont be making too much progress over the next 7 days or so. I got 4 exams next week! but ye i'll update once i get something done.
cheers guys

Nice design there maca. I'm about to start work on a KV style too, but at 3/4 that scale length (25.5 = 648mm, so 486mm scale length). Didn't take you long to get into it. You'll have it finished by christmas at that rate. Oz Tradie might have a contender for fastest builder.

gona glue wedges to the sides first, then mount the clamps using the wedges.

It's looking good there maca! It's going to be a set neck (or bolt on) then? For some reason I thought you where also doing a neck thru.
Keep us posted on the progress mate!
