weissenborn build guidebook
Hi, good to hear you're getting into weissenborn.
Many decent aussie artists use them (check out jeff lang), and while hard to build I think it'll be easier than an acoustic steel string- no worries about fretboard being perfect is the main reason there. I've been meaning to build one myself for some time.
There's a book I got by some guy in queensland, terry buddell, called "building the weissenborn". I got it a while back and its interesting reading, heaps of pictures and explanations. I dont rate him as a master builder or anything, he made a few amusing mistakes that I can see, but it gives me a starting point as I've never built an acoustic before. Its pretty cheap too, sure you can find it if yer interested.
I build lapsteels, have made several now and i'm in the agonies of design prior to starting another one. If you dont play guitar you'll find them very intuitive to get playing on, no complicated chords or fingering. I started making them because they're the easiest guitar to build as well, not much to worry about except getting everything straight and the hardware installed properly.
If yer interested i'll put some pics up of my last couple, a 25.5" fender scale and a 27" baritone model. Pretty happy with them both.
Good luck with the weissenborn!

Jezz you guys...its Bobs first build so give him a break. Like me Bob he also has a job that takes priority over guitar building. I havent touched my lute or the other two guitars sitting in my workshop for over a month now. I finally got a three week break from work and then my father decided to get sick so now Im sitting in a hotel in Chch New Zealand miles away from my workshop.

My First Build a Weissenborn
Hi thelloydr, Feel free to post photos of your lapsteels,I look forward to seeing them, start a new thread Lapsteels, when I get my Weissenborn finished this might be my next project.
And G'Day dadovfor I am here, creating very little sawdust with the fiddleback blackwood, Sawdust is something I dont want as I used a bandsaw blade with only a 1mm.kerf, sets were resaw to just a little over 4mm thickness enough for me to finish off with some very fine sanding. and as the sets were resawn from a 75mm billet that had been air dried for 12 years, when you resaw into sets its best to leave them for at least a few months to settle and stabilize.
And Andy yes mate, I have been working flat out while the sun shines.
And if you went to work, you would not have got to the stage where you are at now with the 7 String. Go to work.
and to tbkmagic I will catch up soon
Cheers Bob.

Don't listen to them Bob.
Put my myrtle on the truck first.
It must be nice to finally see the sun down there in Tassie.

My First Build a Weissenborn
Too True dadovfor, getting old we can't be bothered getting upset don't have the time.
As for the weather we have been getting some very hot days, not much fun when your moving around heavy timber, I need to retire so that I can build my weissenborn,
I was hoping to do more on my weissenborn today but I keep getting orders.
So next week I will make sure I take at least one day off work.
