Buyer beware...!
The latest copy from China, complete with all extras including guitar case, tags, booklets and plaque. Back of the head stock has correct registered serial number( I checked it) stamped into the wood along with made in USA. Shipped to your door via EMS for $400.00. BUT...it's not a real Gibson, the pups are rubbish, the wiring, pots and tuners are crap....replace all of that and it's ok as a second guitar, or to leave around the lounge room to grab when you want to play.
The Buyer Beware part is this. There are a lot of these making there way into Australia. Two Fender USA Strats were recently sold at an auction room, went for $800 each, they were fake. Only discovered when taken apart. Thats how much of an exact copy they are. Unless you can play one to hear that its less than genuine, and or take it apart, which is when you'll see very low quality wire in use, poor soldering etc. Experienced players are usually buying from a music store they know and trust, it's the inexperienced that will get caught out, and it's usually the younger guys who see a "Gibson" advertised in their local newspaper..."Must sell, going cheap only $800"...be careful guys and girls.

Its a great fake right down to the Gibson Gold Warranty. Has anyone dropped a note to Gibson? If the things are being peddled on Ebay then id say theyre in reach of TOS with same.
Heres some guff on spotting fake Gibbos:

The Veneer top looks good, but under that you've got rubbish. The frets are cheap muck metal, I've seen them poping out of fret boards after a short while. I wouldn't trust the stability of the neck, or adjusting the truss rod. These just don't even come close to a well made, solid reliable guitar. About all they are good for is experimenting on so if you accidently destroy it, it's no great loss.
Gibson etc are fully aware of these being copied, but because of very different laws in China, there is nothing they can do except warn people about them, which they actively do. You'll find these guitars all over ebay and other auction sites. It's a shame they can't be stopped.

Buyer beware
Hi GhostGuitarist there is a company on myspace website. www.myspace.com/tasmaniantonewoods
who are in South Australia, that I phoned this week to see if they were interested in tasmanian tonewoods. And the guy says we don't make the guitars here that they are made in China and when they arrive he then works on all the repairs fret boards, truss rods Etc and then sells them on, bugger just like a toyota.
Cheers Bob
