I remember reading somewhere that a true baritone is 27.5 so i will prob do that.... Was your v 27 fret? How does it play?

I might email them and ask.. It says $22 for normal scales and frets but if you want custom length or frets, its a one off fee of $50 plus the normal $22...So $72 to get a board slotted.....pretty pricey i guess...But at least I know it will work lol

id want that to include frets that FIT the slots... hahahaha


yea the V is 27 fret....
i dont know how it plays lol.. its just sitting on my rack untill i get some nut material.... will go pick it up next week some time i guess....

They say the jumbo fret wire will fit it. I guess ill soon find out..Theyre the only place ive found that offer custom slotting but...Ive still gotta see if the board will be wide enought for a 7! I think i worked it out to be 65mm at the last fret

if the slotted board is 6.5 then you may just be able to fit .....
otherwise we will have to bind the boards lol

mine is 6.3cm from B to E (tuned b e a d g b e) i think it was 6.3cm... i will have to re check

The small gell cap looking thing is acually a capacitor / resistor of sorts. Wired correctly (with some other secret ingredients) it is piggy backed into the tone circuit. The result is that I will be able to "dial in" a deep bluesy overdriven signal to send to my amp, almost like the old "crunch" button on practise amps in the 80's.
It is not distortion- think of it more like having BB King stuffed inside your guitar.
It's called "Black Ice". Type that into the stew mac webpage and you will get one, or alternatively ring Perry at Ormsby guitars in perth and he should be able to send you one.

The circuit board is and on-board eq and reverb/ chorus pre-amp unit. I don't actually know if I can install all of this in the guitar in the allotted time, but I will at least try.

The origional purpose of this comp was to be inventive, push the limits.

Little tip: I don't build regular guitars. I build purpose made instruments which are there to do a specific job, solve a specific problem or allow an identified boundary to be moved to where the player would like it to be.

I have had an idea for a guitar, which uses a new construction method, for a couple of years now. Couple this with the on-board effects and I hope to have a functional blues machine, which will allow the user to play anywhere.

I m reasonably confident that if I can get this thing to work, I win.

There is always the very real chance that I am trying to bend the laws of physics, I hope that is not the case. If it is - I loose in spectacular fashion.

Hey Bricks......I've tried the black ice before. As soon as she got wired in, she got taken out again.
Sounds way too artificial and muddy to my ears. My opinion only

Everyone's getting their goodies together and they're looking great.

I believe that the build has started as of 1st.

PS : the black ice alone is rubbish, I put some in line resistors before the tone pot, and also use a 1000k pot (normally 250k or 500k), this means that you can dial the Black ice more delicately. I am still in the experimental stage, basically as you say the black ice can get very muddy, it needs more highs, and the only way I can get it to work well is to filter the low end slightly.
I'm also looking at the push pull knobs to set and forget. Also a seperate knob for Black Ice control.

Then again I have also thought of just installing a distortion/ overdrive circuit into the guitar. Sometimes I think that would be easier than the work I've done with the black ice to date.

If only I spent this much time working on a get rich quick scheme/ scam/ heist/ daylight robbery.

actually aussie wanted me to do a ccouple,
but i dont have the spare cash to buy the parts at the moment
one day ill find my sketches and get back onto that...

I have been working on this also, I usually buy kits modify them at JAYCAR here in adelaide. There kits are about $12-00 and then you can modify them to suit for about $2.
I don't know if jaycar are in sydney or not, but you will have some sort of electronics outlet.

The biggest issue for me has not been the size, most pedal boards are actually very small- around the size of a 9 volt battery. The issue has been when to turn them on or off, most pedals turn on when you connect the input and output; this means that in a hard wired situation battery life is very limited. If I change the on off to a switch, I always have issues getting the effect to switch as well.

Getting a clean useable set-up is what is hard, and I'm a plumber not n electronics wizz so I have to learn as I go.

Let me know how you get on.

Ps ; look up "chaos pad", I want to put one into a guitar one day. I thought I would be the first until this bloke beat me to it.

yea im not into buying circuts to modify...
i do have a jaycar here and i believe they do sell about 6 or 7 guitar effects.....
but i dont think they are any good.... i wouldnt trust them

i have done a couple of effects from scratch now and the last one i did was pretty small....
i reckon i could get it a bit smaller

i just need to buy a bulk amount caps and resistors as i have run out

im actually trying to find a copy of an effects building book i heard about a while ago,
title was along the lines of building musical electronics or something...

the power problem is a pain in the rear...

Yes clever dick, Ive used a bit of mahogany that's pre routed for the truss rod, but then i could have just as easily used a prefab neck (as I stated in the check list as an option). Im sure there's a few out there who can't make necks but would still like to participate. Thats why I mentioned pre fab necks as an option too.
Ive only used the mahogany to get it out of the way. Its an off cut from another job, so I had drawn up and routed both truss rod slots when I done the first one.
I wouldnt call it roughed out though.

i started mine today....

had major router trouble....
all it wanted to do was rip the sh*t out of this maple...
so i am getting pretty sick of using templates and the router table now....

i need my fingers where they are

so i can either start a new body... or i can attempt to fill the sh*tty bits in this one...

for now i attempted to fill it...
its ok, will be painted

funny thing was i spent the extra time and a brand new jigsaw blade cutting this one SO close to the line...
there was only a bees dick to take off the edge and it still grabbed and ripped bits out....
whether it was the wood or the router bit, im not sure...
the bit isnt old... its been taken care of....

ill give the router one more go to do the neck and see how i go....
but im not liking it at all

might have to try routing handheld and see how that goes

Im not to keen on the idea of routing the body on a table. I need to feel in control with routers otherwise theyre scary!!!! I havent even done the rout of my table to put the insert in...Im just using it as a work bench!!! Have you seen the robo sander for the drill press?? Looks pretty good
