Starting on my pile
Ok, heres a few pics of what ive been up to today.
Firtstly, ive started on my body blank. I dont have a router table like some lucky ba$t#rd$, and I only had a fretting blade in my jigsaw.
http://s732.photobucket.com/albums/w...=Pile_2494.jpg
The problem with that is the blades tend to go all over the place when you hit a corner.
http://s732.photobucket.com/albums/w...=Pile_2502.jpg
I wanted a fairly neat square edge, so ive gone around the design with a drill. It lets the blade straighten up, but I still had a bit of cutting back to do after.
http://s732.photobucket.com/albums/w...=Pile_2503.jpg
Either way, it worked out very nicely.

Oh and heres a close up of the pickups im gonna use
http://s732.photobucket.com/albums/w...Gum_Pups_1.jpg
I have another set of these done and have another 2 sets in the works.
I think ill try a few blackwood covers next time.
I might get started on the neck soon too.

mine is kind of sticking to myy offset kinda theme....
i was showing aussie pictures of an aria pro II LP style guitar... made back in the 80's ...
my dad use to have a really nice black one.. and the way the body flows had always tickled my fancy....
so i took it to another level
theres my template and my wonderful safety glasses
i picked this up at big W or something ... thought i would see how it goes
look! another tassie oak slab! (damn that crack!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
looks like its time to make a few pups..... got these magnets in the mail on tuesday
thats all the pics i have... im pretty crook, so i dont think i will be doing anything for a week or so...
i will see if i can photograph the massive tear out on the body when im back in action

sick???? Do some work!!!

I know how ya feel mate. Ive been sick for two weeks and I just cant shake it!!!
Are you telling me that you cut that with a jigsaw?? Thats so freakin neat!! Wat kinda blade do you use? mine always bend LOL!!!

they were cut with a chainsaw lol
ill dig the other one out and get a pic of it...
i have no idea what the grain looks like in this bit.... i would supose it isnt much different to the top on the bass (since they were from the same tree, but different sides)
LOL
yea i would suck it up and work if i could....
but i dont get sick often... maybe once every 4 months... so when i get sick... i get really sick.... lol
my gf works in a child care centre, so im fairly amazed that im not constantly sick lol
yep i cut the lot with my jigsaw....
i recently changed my blade brand... these ones are really good....
ill try and remember to get the name....
pretty sure its a medium/coarse cut blade...
if your cutting on an angle there could be a few things wrong....
have you checked that your base is screwed on straight and tight?
checked your blades are straight?
im guessing your jigsaw would have the blade locking into it with an allen bolt?
my one is a quick release kinda think, no allen keys needed.... which is good in a way
or your just not using it right....
should let it cut...
its when you start to push it that the blade starts to twist and angle.....
and once it does that... its will keep doing that for the rest of your cut....
lol
as boring as it is....
you just gotta hold the jigsaw and let it do its work....
easing it in the right direction
i bought a couple of scroll blades to try them in tighter curves...
you still sick?
lol

yea i prob force it to much. Impatience is my prob lol
Yea im still sick... Breathing in dust all day and not getting any rest means i dont get better lol
My wood turned up today for my 7! And i emailed gilet about a fret board for it. I think its just gonna be 24 fret 25.5" scale..I cant afford custom scale...im scared to fret it but.. Wat tools do i need to push the frets in?
Let me know when you find out wat blades you use.. Since changing to my dads bosch jigsaw, the cuts are alot straighter..My crappy ozito was the worst made tool ever lol

Like I said, its a fretting blade. Thats why i drilled the holes, to keep the blade from going all over the place

lol... glue a dust mask to your face
read up on frettiing...
frets.net has some info.... well i think that site does.... it is interesting though...
and google has lots
the tools you will need are talked about all over the net ....
aslo the tools needed depend on if you want to press in the frets or hammer,
if your using pre cut or buying fretwire in lengths,
if you already have things you can adapt to use, like files and end nippers (pincers with the face ground flat)
do some research
i will check the blades next time i go out to the shed....

I just make up a negative radius of the neck (both sides) and just press the frets in with a vice. If your using good solid wood for the fretboard, they wont press any deeper than the surface, using reasonable force that is. If your watching as each one goes in, you shouldnt have any worries.
I also use a good thick length of metal (5mm) with 2 side strips of hardwood and G clamp it along the entire length, just to even out the levels. It works a treat, and saves on a lot of the leveling later. Still has to be done, but its not as traumatic as it would normally be to the final crowning.
Ill add pics when it get to that point on my project.

Well there is some progress!
Rose Myrtle isnt dry enough for lutherie. On to plan B, I wonder what that was? Oh yeh, unidentified stuff from Greg."We must never become callous. When we experience the conflicts ever more deeply we are living in truth. The quiet conscience is an invention of the devil." - Albert Schweizer

floody...
i just went out to have a look at the blades im using.....
i have a couple of sets.... but the ones i use often are called
craftmaster jigsaw blades...
they are the finer ones (medium i guess)
and then i have my rough cut ones which are called
sutton tools jigsaw blades...
they are thick 6 teeth per inch beasts and look to be a tad longer than the others ( i havnt really checked)
i like them
