Thanks again Mase, just this evening I was researching using a PID controller and cartridge heater. For under $100 and a bit of solid aluminium bar I will have one that should be better than the store bought ones. Will be able to add different diameter bar to it for different radius bends too. I was going to go the way you have just illustrated but the PID controller seems to be a more effective way of giving me constant temp control each time I use it. I may end up getting a blanket too, it can be plugged into the PID also.
Where in S.A are you? I’m in Strathalbyn. Would love to see the semi hollow build!

Hi Cal,
Western suburbs of dear old Adelaide...
I can start a thread when I have made some progress, be warned I'm not the speediest builder around:U
I have just got hold of some Q'land maple and some Myrtle beech, so I'm starting a few necks in the next couple of weeks.I can take a few pics of that process if you like ?
I am interested in the PID controller set up, sounds like a good idea and it would be good to see how you build/set up that sort of arrangement if you can be bothered.
Cheers,

Hi Mase, for sure post away when you get started! That would be great [emoji16]
Would be good to see it in the flesh when you get further into it too.
Yep, will do a post on it once I get all the bits. I have a mate at work that has been a guitar player for years, he is making a box guitar at the moment and is keen on us both building guitars together, so keen to see how I go with the bending iron. I spoke with another workmate today about drilling the aluminium bar for me on his lathe, handy having handy mates [emoji38]
I have to find a metal seller who will cut me a short length of ally bar otherwise I will get it of eBay. Hope to have the heat rod and PID next week, will see what happens. Keep you posted!
Cheers Cal
