Default How Many Coats Nitro/ Poly

    Hi,
To get a quality solid colour finish like a strat what products do you use and in what sequence do you apply it?

Is it better to use nitrocellulose lacquer or polyurethane?

And in either case how many coats would you apply?

    Thanks,

It is an age old argument, and is a personel preference.
check this thread from an airbrush/ custom paint site, it has a really good explanation of both processes, and the pros and cons of both.
Great site with heaps of info

Thanks Jeff and UZJ40, those sites were helpful.

Also, If anybody who has recently done a solid colour finish on
a guitar could share their experience with what they did
and used that would be great.

    Cheers,

Check out the bass I recently completed it's a 1970's Plymouth color Claret Red Metallic. Yep that's right I used lacquer auto paint - worked like a champ The hardest part was letting it hang for 2 weeks so it would completely dry

This is a post of mine from another forum that was actually covering grain filling but I did go over my process for spraying a solid colour guitar - It may be of help
