"Concept" Laminate Arch Top & sides
Hey all, its been a while since i last posted but im still here and still workin on "stuff".
I have 7 builds in my guitar stand now, mostly all done so far but have to do a little more setting up, such as the wiring and fret leveling. Thanks to AnderwB for offering me a crowning fret file, but never sending it. Lesson learnt there.
Anyway, im part way into making a few presses for at least two different styles of arch tops. I had the incling a while back but never really got past the idea until I met a guy "sort of" local to me. Hi Marco
He said he has only done 2 acoustics and I seen one, but what I seen was flippin BEAUTIFUL!!! He had a brilliant bending set up which offered a new insight for me and everything I seen was only prompting me to give some acoustics a try myself.
Suffice to say, IM DOING IT.
So, ive started making the presses and bending jig/s to suit my "standard" design, but am wondering if anyone else has any tips on making reasonably good laminated arch top acoustics? No pics yet, but to give you an idea im going all laminates on the top and sides with a "typical" 2 piece back.
The design/s im working on is by no means a traditional acoustic design and im really playing with a lot of possible ideas.
I'm basically reworking the principal design of a hollow body electric more towards an acoustic. That is to say, a deeper body, arch top for that little bit mosre soundboard surface and over all stability, possibly a thin (2.5mm to 3mm) soundboard, fixed electric style neck joint plus a few other ideas im concidering.
But thats enough of my nattering on, so if anyone has a few tips or ideas they would like to offer, id be really glad to hear them.
Pics will be comming as soon as I get the first press finished, so hang in there peeps
