Default My Custom Vulcan Harp Star Trek

    I need your help!!!!
I entered my Harp in a contest.
20 projects were chosen out of 100's
of entries. I was lucky enough to be
one of the 20 contestants picked.

Now the contest has gone into the second phase.
Contestants now need to go out and campaign
for votes. This really sucks!! It turned from
enter your Star Trek custom made prop to
now you need to go out and fight for votes.
    This brought me here.

I built this Vulcan Harp just like the one
used by Spock on Star Trek.

    My harp actually
is tunable and playable. It's made out of high end
guitar woods. The top wood is made out of Tiger Maple.
A plank was split down the middle and book matched.
The darker wood is made from purduc. It has a nice
burgundy reddish/purple tint to it. No stains were used.
I just clear coated it with several coats and a lot of wet
    sanding.

    Shameless Plea!!!
    Please go to
    http://www.roddenberry.com/?action=site.showcase&sid=20

And vote for my harp. I'm contestant # 19 Todd Mustachio.

    Thanks for looking!

You got any pics of Spock playing this thing?

Your thing looks really nice but we should be able to compare it with the original

I checked out the site, you did real good.
Just make me a lifesized 7 of 9 and you got my vote!

Sweet build, have you got any pics of the build in progress?
If you add these in I am sure you will get more votes

May the force be with you
    Cheers!

An excellent picture can be found here, at the bottom of the page. Lord knows why its on a mountain bike forum!

Might try making one of those bicycle wheel instruments!

I like some of the other items, but until someone comes up with a working phaser, you got my vote!

You got my vote too. Nice work. I like the fact that your entry actually works. I bet none of those blasters work!

I like the harp. You say it's playable? Does that mean it's hollow? I'd like to know how you made it that way. And maybe the harp's dimensions as well?

I started on one, making the frame out of poplar because it's both cheap and light-weight; a finished harp is actually fairly heavy, so I tried to use woods like poplar and walnut. Poplar is light, but walnut is better (even if it does cost considerably more).

The biggest problem with the available plans is that round stringholder towards the bottom is not right and needs a lot of work. I envy the one in the pictures.
