Danga Dang Dang Dang
Been meaning to have a go at this for quite a while so hope it works out as I have never tackled a banjo build. Start with a template then more routing and more routing. I am not a great router user but sometimes its what gets the job done.
The aim is a mountain/Appalachian style banjo on a scale length of about 20'' and 4 string.
Pictures tell the story.
Regards
John

Bit more progress on the banjo. Got it to lock up stage. Body is mostly done and its pretty near at tension on the head without the grub screw tensioners being used. Mind you I am new to this so will see how things go. I assume there will be more stretch over time. I will start on the neck next session. Some pics.

Well folks just about got the banjo finished. Has a nice bright tone and all I have left to do is make another bridge for it. The one in the picture off another banjo and is too narrow for the splay of the strings but I could still get a tune out of it. Will get its first outing at a pub session next week.

Looking good John. I think we need a video.

Hey John,
Looks excellent and I bet it sounds great also. I know that pub, know the area coming from Lithgow. We had two nights booked there last month, but cancelled the entire trip due to all the areas we were heading south to, being flooded.
Great job.

Seeing as I had to make a bridge for it and it turned out to be quite easy I will put up the method in case anyone else out there can use it. Like almost everything its there on google. I used Huon Pine for the base but any light weight wood will do. Top is usually rosewood or ebony but I had to improvise with a bit of old fence paling. Glue up a blank, saw off a slice just wider than the feet will end up then shape. Tools used were saw, forstener bit, small files and sandpaper. That blank will keep me in bridges for life.
Regards
John
