    Default DarkFiend's LP Build

Hey i thought i might make a new thread devoted to the building of my LP. So far progress has been going well i have wood cut and almost completly glued together, i say almost because the wood i have is 6mm too thin so i had to re-saw another piece, which gave it a somewhat bookmatch effect too bad its not the top, and am in the midst of planing it flat, we have a surfacer which will make it perfectly flat but as of now it rocks a bit. And i still do not have a neck but am hoping to be ordering that this weekend. Also i do have a shape template made and a control cavitiy template made but i didnt get that in a picture.

OK onto the pics of what i have, oh btw the wood i am using is african mahogany

any tips would be greatly appreciated

Well over the past few days ive gotten a bit done. The main body is almost ready for routing the cavities and i made a slight miscalculation. I mismeasured and thought my wood was 6mm too thin so i decided to resaw another piece and glue it on top, but yea it was actually about a little under a quarter inch too thick. so i made it really really thick but not a bad mistake just a waste of wood cuz i had to plane it all down to 45mm or 1.7765 inches (i love having a converter in my phone.) also i the piece i had resawn and glued on top looked really nice cuz it was kind of bookmatched so it intended it to be the back, but since it was easier to see the line on that side i drew the trace on it...and forgot to flip it and only realized it AFTER i had cut most of it, not bad structually i hope but just frustrating that i did that

so yea here are some pics of progress

DarkFiend, measure twice or to be on the safe side, measure 3 times.
Before you dress or cut any timber this is the most importent leason in any form of wood working.

I may stand corrected as I'm not sure of Lil' Mongrel's age

but I think she's younger and has been at it longer .

And great work mate I'm looking forward to seeing your progress.

    regards to all.

    Touché .

If by wire you mean the truss rod, then the depth at the centre of the neck around the sixth fret should be 1/2 an inch or 13 mm from the face of the neck not including the finger board, that is if you are going to install a traditional curved truss.

My plans aren't detailed but they are to scale so it's important to measure everything. you're welcome to them if you want, amongst anything else I have.

    hope this helps

    regards

Then 25 mm is correct but I made mine only 20 mm so that I can keep the pick up pockets flat without the groove down the sides. You get more pick up hight adjustment with 25 mm and that will facilitate more types of pick ups. I'm making my own.
