Hi all,
Some pics of gluing the binding.
Started out with the iner part of the lower horn.
And the sides I bent the majority with my aluminium mould and butane torch. There is a little spring back which needs touch up a hot pipe. The tighter curves around the horn is done purely with a hot pipe.
I glue on all my binding with an elastic band. Gives good even pressure around the perimeter of the guitar. The initial set is done with masking tape to make sure there is no slack in the binding and then wrap.
Cheers,
Peter

Wow andrew.. a diamond member. As they say in Australian Idol. "It's been a journey" (Just joking mate)
More progress pics. The binding is cleaned up with a freshly burnished scraper, and the top is carved also. I carved the top differently, I roughed out the top with an angle grinder and worked the curves with scraper also.
Shaping the volute
Cheers,
Peter

New Design - Single Cutaway
Only kidding Peter, I will leave the scabbing to Andrew B,
I have more figured wood than I can poke a stick at.
And I hope one day to be able to do a build myself, I noted in one build thread the guy took 8 1/2 years to do his first build so there is plenty of time for me to do something magic.
Cheers Bob

Thanks R&R
The ebony was the most challenging to bend of all the binding timbers I have ever tried, however I will definately use it again as it provides a nice hard durable edge on the top. After using both maple and ebony as a binding, I think I am going to try a few other close grained hard woods as well, and is something I will consider for other builds especially tops with open grained timbers, as I have found that the open grained timbers do not take grain filler very well on edges and are also alot more prone to dings on the edge than the close grained timbers.
Cheers,
Peter
