DIY LP guitar recommendations or tender
Hi all,
Apologies for the first time post here, I did actually join many years ago with the great intent of setting up a wordworking shed but that never happened. Life....
Any how... I'm looking for recommendations for a DIY guitar kit for my father. This is probably something that is asked a lot before but please bare with me. My dad has been playing guitars since his teenage years and has been an ongoing passion of his. He has been recently diagnosed with a terminal cancer but has expressed his desire to do a DIY guitar project while he can. I feel this is a good opputunity for my brother and I to have some value time together with him and get together on a little project together while we can.
TLDR.... Looking for an LP kit that is suitable for an intermeidate build, we have experience with electronics and have some woodworking capacity. However if there was an option or someone who could do a custom body/kit then I would definitely be interested. Money no real object. Not sure if there is anyone out there....
LP body, gold hardware but this could certainly be sorted elsewhere.....
Hope you are all staying safe and well,
Many thanks
Kieren

Check out the Ace Guitar Parts LP kit. I have bought many parts including a Stratocaster neck of exceptional quality. I tried to post a link but only got this pic. They’re easy to find.
Best wishes to your dad.

Please be sure to post your progress as a WIP thread. I’m sure your dad would enjoy following it.

G'day and welcome to the forum Kieren.
Have a look at one of our members businesses - Stan Ceglinski (Big Stan) Pickin Sticks and Pikin Stiks Hardware
He has a shop and factory on the north coast of NSW and has all sorts of interesting timbers and guitar bits and pieces.
I know virtually nothing about guitars etc, but looking at his website I reckon you will find plenty to keep you occupied for a while.
Alan...
PS. Say G'day to your Dad for me.

I bought a kit from lmii years ago. Very happy. The kit wizard will take some time getting your head around it but basically you buy what you want get work done to teh stage you want and you finish it.

Thought I'd throw up a quick update. I hit Ace Guitars who couldn't quite do the build we were after but suggested Crimson Guitars in the UK. After a few quick emails I decided to go through them. A little more expensive than other options but getting it built by a luthier from a reputable company convinced me. The kit is on its way and should land on my doorstep any day now. I ended up getting most of my hardware though Ace Guitars as they had pretty much everything I needed.
One thing we would like to do is put an inly in the headstock. We found this but the shipping from the US is a little ridiculous. Does anyone have any leads on who might make these in Oz or could make them to order?
