Anyway, here is the real deal. It even appears that the F holes are bound (I'm not a 335 expert). Anyway, be interesting to see what it goes for.

Will 6K get it? Lets see.

I'm still working on mine. The yemplates are done and the initial cutout of top and bottom is done. I need to clamp the two halves together and clean up. I was looking for a spindle sander... no luck. I have all the "parts". I'll take pics of them soon. My 335 will not have bound f-holes. None of the examples I've seen "in the flesh" have had bound f-holes.

Things are going slowly due to time contraints. I've about to start the shaping of the top and bottom arches after I've partly hollowed the insdes. This has also been an exercise in "building" a supply of tools too. I started with nothing and now have a jisaw, router, planer etc.

The attached is closer to what I'm aiming for but with gold hardware and some special knobs and pickguard.

If anybody's interested, the 335 went for 4,900. A good buy I reckon.

You need to make sure you have the /Guitars on the end. Does that work?

Got my full size plans printed on A1. Prices varied from $45 per page to, what I paid, $2 per page. Go Snap Printing...

I've asked some finishing question in the Finishing forum but received no replies. Not sure how to link to it from here but please see my questions around finishing with ubeaut products.

Ok. Ready to start off again. I'll post progress in here. My old Frontpage built website is dodgy so I'll take all new photos of the neck, hardware and ready-to-carve blanks tomorrow when I clean up the workbench a bit. I've tweaked the plans a little and had relevant pages printed full size (on A1).

    Updated plans: Visio-Es-335 v4.vsd.pdf

    Couple of opinions wanted:
    1. The original ES-335 had the mounting block inside extend from top to bottom giving two separate "wing chambers". Later (and smaller) models had the block extending to just below the level of the stop-piece, thus connecting the chambers and increasing volume (and reducing weight). Should I stay true to model or go for the additional routing?
    2. Many early players of ES335s criticised the jack being on the front of the guitar. I have also seen posts of owners having problems with damaging the jack sockets and the timber around. Should I move the jack to the edge ala later ES and CS models and use a jackplate or again stay true to model?

    Cheers,

    Mark
ps. What is the max size of pics allowed in here?

Looks great so far. I'd love to try an archtop one day. I don't get alot of time these days unfortunately.

re: hollowing out - chambering - keep in mind the balance, as tuners are surprisingly heavy and are on the end of the neck ( IIRC ) producing a significant moment.

I would leave a fair bit of wood down the butt end aiming at getting it to balance nicely in the playing position when hanging on a shoulder strap.

Course now you can buy shoulder straps with built in lead weights - or silicone in some sinkers from the rod 'n reel.

IT looks like it will be a beautiful instrument. All the best
