Figured Tassie Blackwood
Im looking for enough figured Tassie Black for at least three special projects (prefer five!). These are going to be very high profile electric guitars.
Needs to be 50mm thick, but would prefer 60mm
320mm wide minimum and 475-500mm long
Has to be highly figured. Obviously one piece body blanks. I understand these are going to be priced to suit, but a quote i had from a local supplier was a little high. I have numerous stocks of rare and 'extinct' tone woods, and willing to use these as partial or full trades... or cash is equally fine.
Also, but not nearly as important:
3 x 75mm x 75mm x 750mm
Spotters fee if you direct me to a supplier I haven't already contacted and I purchase their stock.

Have you tried Tim Spittle? I was there a few weeks ago, he seemed to have all sorts of stuff. http://www.australiantonewoods.com/

His price of $500 per guitar body blank seemed a little too much, especially when i was asking for five bodies. I then never heard back from him on availability, so i didnt bother emailing again because i figure he couldnt supply.

By my logic, I am guessing you would pay that much for a blank as highly figured as you are asking, no matter where from. I have had dificulties looking for low cost anything in a one piece, the best I got was a eucalypt (which was far too heavy) for just shy of $150...

a fair bit of blackwood, in slabs, about 60 mm thick. i sent sebastiaan a bit just after xmas. i'm a part time sawmiller, and come across some bwood from time to time but not knowing what quality you luthiers need,i sent sebastiaan a bit just to get feedback on the timber i have. like i said to him if i waste his time sending him crap i'm wasting my time as well so i'll wait for his reply to find out if i'm wasting everybodys time! this is a piece i sent him

Hi guys,
Sorry Charlsie, I thought I PM'd a reply to you. The timber you sent is not specifically what I was looking for. It may be better flatsawn but most luthiers look for high figure. It will probably make some fine necks but lacks that stunning visual quality of the Tassie zoot. I think that is what Rhoads is after. Try http://www.giletguitars.com.au/showroom.php and look at the 4th and 5th guitars down the list. Pretty, with good tap tone.
I know it goes for a premium, particularly in the US. Of course Rhoads if you find an economical source there may be a queue behind you, if you are willing to let on..."We must never become callous. Woodturner,
When you reply to an post go down to "manage attachments" Its pretty self explanatory from there. If your images are too large, get file resizer from the microsoft website."We must never become callous. When we experience the conflicts ever more deeply we are living in truth. woodturner definitely no offence takenthis was partly the reason i joined this forrum. to learn more about timber , and being a part time miller it all helps to know what everybody else wants or expects so yes am asking for feedback.it's not anyones problem if i don't like the answer.having said that thanks for your feedback.
sebastiaan yes you did pm me .when you say flat sawn do you mean backsawn?
