Yep Andrew ... we went with a belly carve ... more like an upper thigh carve given the playing position.
This is where we're up to at the moment .. 5% off completion for weeks now. We will finish it one day, but he's playing it and loving it. And those last pics you posted now have me wondering about a yellow truss rod cover instead of black
So Floody ... where are you up to? Surely Andrew and I have bludgeoned you with enough ideas by now. What have you decided?

some good inspiration there.
Thats a real nice v daddy lol
I dont think ill do a belly cut. Prob just keep it simple for now. I think ill order my body and pickups this week, and hopefully the neck next week. its getting closer. Im in the process of building a router table so hopefully ill get that done.
then maybe ill finish the mrs bookcase that i started a month ago lol!!!

Ok so here's wat im gonna do
Body:Agathis
Neck: The one i wanted had a rosewood fingerboard but that is gone so I might have to go with a maple fingerboard. Not sure how it will look. I think I decided to go with a non trem bridge but all the necks ive looked at have the floyd rose nut at the top. I dont know how to get around this.
Pickups: Wilkinson Zebra Humbuckers neck and bridge. From the reviews ive read, they sound pretty good. They have even been compared to the Dimarzio PAF.
One Volume two tone controls.
25.5" Scale.
Paint will be as black as black can be with blood red pinstripes lol.
I think that covers everything. Im trying to get a hold of photoshop so i can do a mock up so ill post pics when its done.
What is the best way to do the bevel??

that is a nice V daddy.....
the belly cut looks a little strange on V's but im sure it would be more comfortable that a straight or beveled edge digging into my leg lol
as far as i know, the reason the hate crew logo is the other way up is so when they decide to grab the body and neck and lift the guitar above their heads on stage, the crowd is veiwing the logo right way up
hey floody
pohotoshop is a b**ch to get a hold of... took me ages... and then my laptop crashed... lol
you might like the maple fingerboard...
for years i didnt get along with my ibanez because of the maple board....
but eventually it grew on me and i love it to death now....
black headstock /maple neck /black dots /black body /zebra pups.....
i think you may be onto something there!
as for the bevels...
i dont know what daddy did.....
but i used my tiny brass/wood plane.... i love that tool almost as much as my ibanez
oh and i love my lollies

Daddy?!?
Ya damn punk kids!!
Okay ... on the unfinished Rhoads, I started doing the bevels with a rasp and files. It was coming together slowly but quite well when we realised the shape wasn't the same as the Alexi Rhoads that my son actually wanted ... smaller; no cutaway for the 24th frets; etc. So this body is now under the bench but we'll come back to it. Also, I prefer to start with the neck pocket ... which for some reason I didn't with this body
I used a router to do the bevels on the completed build. Don't do this at home kids, but I used a large 45 degree bit and I taped a dowel to one side of my router base to decrease the angle of the bevel. I double-sided taped a length of aluminium strip to the body to run the router along to get it dead straight. Unorthodox ... but it worked.
The locking nut without a trem is unusual Floody ... but why not. I think the maple neck will be fine with the black body ... but as Andrew suggests, you might need to go with a black headstock for balance. What colour hardware? With the black/red and maple and zebra pickups you could get way with anything I spose ... but a black bridge and knobs would be good.
Yeah Andrew ... that's correct about the reason for the upside down Hate Crew logo but we did a couple of things our own way and my Andrew ain't gonna be holding it above his head on stage any time soon.

Yea im starting to think the maple neck might be the way to go.
Wat kinda ibanez you got andrew? Ive got an rg and an ex350. Neither are top line models but they are so damn good to play!!!
Daddy, wat I was saying about the necks having the locking nut was that i dont want that. I am prob going non trem so i dont want the locking nut. But i think all the necks that affordable guitar parts have are with the locking nut. I might have to email him coz its the perfect price for me and i cant find any others even close to that

Sorry ... I read it as you deciding to go with the locking nut, even though it wasn't ideal for you.
Definitely drop him an e-mail ... you may even find that he has the rosewood fingerboard that you'd prefer. I've bought about 5 necks from him I think ... I still have a couple down in the garage. Only the most recent neck had the locking nut ... the others all had a standard nut. Ironically ... on our first build I modified a neck with a standard nut / neck in order to fit a locking nut.

lol isnt it ironic....dont ya think
I just emailed him. I notice the fender style necks dont have the space for locking nut but the more jackson/esp style ones do. I definately dont want a fender neck on a metal guitar but lol!!!
I would go with the trem but i figure its prob easier doing a normal bridge as well as cheaper. And i have an ibanez with floyd rose and it pretty much always stays in the same tuning coz im too lazy to screw around with changing it.
I would like to play this one alot but lol

Thats awesome man. Love the colour. No matter wat guitar i play, nothing ever beats an ibanez!!
Ill take some pics of mine and post them.
I have an RG340MH i think, ex370, a squier fat strat an epiphone special 2 and a samick bass. two acoustics too..
I picked the ex up second hand for 250. they still sell for 400 in the us second hand. i think its a 92 model. Such a low fast action
Thats the same as my ex but just a pic i found on the net

i had a giggle at that hahahaha
i also pick up oher guitars and compare them to the ibanez....
nothing beats it, even thought it could do with a setup and fret dress and a general clean LOL
i have a squire strat too
most amazing neck, defenetly feels nothing like the brand name on the headstock...
if there was no brandname you would never pick it as a squire, lots of dings, scratches and dents too, you can tell its mine! lol
i need to get another single humbucker pickgaurd for it... i killed the one in the pic lol
so it has a humbucker/single/single gaurd on it untill i get that sorted....
and to think you said strats cant be metal!!!! (well you said neck but yea!)

lol didint realise the ex comment lol.
thats a nice lookin strat. the neck on mine is pretty good actually. reasonably low quick action on it. just a little wider than my ibanez i think. I played a $3500 gibson in a shop once and it still fell along way short of either of my ibanez!
maybe we should become salesman for ibanez man lol

lol
im not a gibson fan, so iv never touched one...
most expensive guitar i have touched would be a fender,
it just looked second hand.. and the exact same as my strat (except with 3 pups),
i had a strum of it and it sounded pretty gay...
so me thinking, oh yea, second hand i can set it up...
i walked to the desk of the shop.. asked how much for it, the bloke goes.... 6grand...
turned out i had picked up one of the stores new fender relics! haha
i put it on the table and backed away.... no way i would pay 6grand for the way it felt/played/souded , yucky
i think the thing with ibanez is the thin neck and flatter radius.... they always feel great
i think i would be a bad sales man, i would just sit around playing them all day lol
you need to get some pics up!!

lol yea my cousin spent 3 grand on his strat and it doesnt play or sound any different to my squier and no where near ibanez's.
i got some pics on my phone so i just gotta get them on the computer but i gotta find the memory card adaptor or my bluetooth.
i was looking in an old guitar mag and there was a black esp custom with a maple neck, black h'stock and zebra pups and it looked freakin awesome man. made me realise mine might look cool with the maple neck
