    Default Guitar Body Chanels

Hello everyone, hope your all well Just wondering how do most people to there body channels? For example a hole running through the body from the neck pickup, to the body pickup down to the main compartment with all the other wiring. I've got my way, but its just not real practical so I'm just curious.

While I'm here, my bass guitar which is an Ibanez has all the Pot's down the bottom like normal, but the electrical compartment is actually up the top of the guitar body (if you were holding it upright like you were playing it) How would these potentiometers have been mounted?

Also very of topic i know, but how do most people mount their template when routering a guitar out?

Just 3 questions I've been pondering lately, I've no doubt that with the amount of brainy people in this forum someone will be able to help me
    David...

    1) extra long drill bit angled in from the jack plug hole, take your time, go slow and make sure you double check that your angles are right or it'll turn into a oh #### moment real quick.

    2) It doesn't really matter how you mount your pots - what matters is how you place your knob on the pot shaft if it's a knob with a line. I like to mount my volume and tone pots so they face each other and solder the center lugs together so if one nut works loose it's still solid.

    3) yes try and use use existing screw hole like where the pickups are mounted and bridge screw holes. The very last profile I do on a body is the out side contour. All my tempales are rectangle so I can screw them down out side of the body edges. My second to last template is screws holes for the bridge and pickups. My last template is the out side body contour and I screw it down where the drilled the holes from the second to last template. I've seen people shape the body first and wondered how they finished the rest of the body? I know it's kind of exciting to see what the body will look like first but it's the last thing I shape.

Thanks Jeff, an extra long drill bit is not something i really took into consideration, but it would work.. And routing the body shape after all the pockets are done makes a great deal of sense, thanks for this, if you didn't say that i would have probably done most of my guitars by routing the shape first

Here's one shot. These guys used to build Tobias basses before Gibson etc.
