Time and effort. I spent not nearly enough on mine and got that finish - With what you're doing on yours, I think it's going to look absolutely fantastic when finished
All done. Pictures tell the rest.
Finish in parts didn't come up as well as I would like it to; mainly, not thick enough on the neck, edges of headstock, and various other places. Had some issues getting the neck seated properly, and I couldn't figure out why. Turns out it was the lip where the fretboard juts over the top of the neck - but I fixed that up. Neck is _really_ chunky - still comfortable, but I'll know to go a bit thinner on the next one. Will probably do a few practice necks to see just how thin I can get it and retain strength.
I'll grab a quick soundclip later on and post it. There's a tiny amount of fret buzz at about the 4th fret, but easily enough fixed. All I can say - this thing has sustain out the wazoo.
And the (now a bit tidier) workshop where I've done most of the work, for anyone interested in the tooling I've got access to
(Plus many more in the drawers.)
Thanks for reading, all, and the comments and criticism that have and has, been offered to me. I loved the jouney, as I hope the readers did. Stay tuned for the worklog for the next one, soon to be started

Stig,
Awesome result for your first. Like me you have learnt a heck of a lot by trial and error, and by listening to some very knowlegable blokes on here.
Keep going !!! Onwards and upwards.

Trial and error I find is the best way to learn. I'll use all the knowledge from the mistakes in this one to make the next one better, and so on and so forth. Onwards and upwards indeed!
Cheers Andy. Plays alright, actually! Really chunky neck, but not so much as to restrict playing, and it's rather comfortable! Certainly playable, and while I halfway expected it to be just a display piece, I think it might get a bit of use.
Workshop has since been cleaned up It usually gets to a state where I can't move without knocking something over, at which point I restore order to everything! Rinse and repeat
A DeWalt thicknesser indeed. Only 12 1/2", so I can't do full body blanks, but it works a treat regardless. Can't be without one!
Thanks floody. Bits and pieces I'm not entirely happy with, but hey, what can you do. Dad's workshop, but I own most of the tools in there - I wouldn't be able to do anything without even that amount of space, so for that I'm grateful
