    Default Guitar finishing recipe suggestions

I am making a guitar from a kit - mostly maple, with a figured maple veneer top. I would really like to finish it in a transparent ruby red colour if possible. Wondering if anyone has recipe suggestions to get such a colour. I am tempted to get a set of the U-Beaut dyes and just muck around, but would love some ideas about starting mixes etc, especially as I know that to do this kind of finish really well often starts with layering stains of different colours that you would expect (I have seen black and brown used as base layers before the actual colour for instance. I would have no idea where to start if that sort of layering might be needed.
The other day I described to my daughter how to find something in the garage by saying "It's right near my big saw". A few minutes later she came back to ask: "Do you mean the black one, the green one, or the blue one?".

I follow Paul Reed Smith (PRS) guitars and on their social media (You Tube, Instagram and perhaps website) they often have tours of their factory. I do recall seeing a section on finishing which was interesting to watch and would be worth you tracking down. It showed show they apply the stain to create the fading.

Wow. He seems to be using an unusual technique. From what I can work out he is using a tub of clean water and concentrated dyes, rather than diluting the dye. It would give a lot of precision but be difficult to learn I suspect. The results are outstanding though
