Guitar maker closing
Hi all, I am a Brisbane guitar maker / repairer who has lost his house / workshop to a main roads resumption, have decided to move on after 20 years full time in this trade. As a result I have many items for sale, some are now posted in the buy sell n swap forum and more will be put up later. Anyone interested in looking at wood, tools or equipment please leave a message or feel free to give me a call on 07 38577037.
Thanks,
Garry.

Hi Ian, I am now living in Thailand (it's a tough life). My house and workshop was resumed by mainroads and now being demolished. The bone you mentioned is available in blank form from stewmac.com or you could ring around the repairers in Brisbane to have parts made.
good luck,
Garry.

hi garry. thanks for your reply . hope youre liking it over there .hope they compensated you enough for taking your house. ive been on the tone merry go round, i tried an ivory nut lost volume didnt like the tone much either.have now a camel bone nut not as dead nice deep tone from inside guitar not just strings ,and elephant bone (not ivory)saddle i bought from lanna in thailand, also tried both camel nut and saddle lost to much volume. but your bone from stewmac for the saddle is by far the best. camel bone nut and your vintage bone saddle the best on a cole clark.with martin sp 80/20 13s. just another question if i may do you intonate guitars with harmonic on 12th fret then freted 12 or open string then freted 12. cheers ian

Hope you dont mind be hijacking your query re intonation. I use harmonic at 12th and compare it to string fretted at 12th. My ear is fairly good but I still use an electronic tuner to get it right. One thing....check nut and action are set up correctly before working on intonation...dont ask me how I know this!!

Hi Ian, the 12th fret harmonic and the 12th fret are unison notes, the open and 12th fret are octaves. Unison and octaves are the only truly in tune notes in the equal tempered system but the unison are easier to hear. Kiwigeo is quite correct, the action must be as you want it before intonating. I use a tuner and my ear to set this. You may find some useful methods for setting acoustic guitar intonation on the stewmac web site, note that the saddle slot will have to be in the right position, at the right angle and at least 1/8' wide to make everything correct, good luck,
Garry.
ps. hope you liked the spruce kiwigeo.

Hi Garry,
The spruce is great....I just wish I had more time away from work to make some use of it. Cheers MartinWhatever note you blow youre never more than a semitone away from the correct one....(Miles Davis)
