    Default Guitar neck finish

Hey guys, Long time reader, first time poster.

I recently purchased a 'lectric guitar kit, and through many searches on the net and other experiences with high quality spray finishes, I think I can handle finishing the body. But, I seem to be having trouble planning finishing the neck and fret-board.

    I have a maple neck, with a rosewood fret-board.

    1) What exactly do i use to finish the fret-board? Oils, laquers?...

    2) I would like to give the neck the basic fender style finish (no paints etc, just lacuer). I have read online that a nitrocelluse lacquer is best used, but does anyone know where it is possible to find this in a spray pack in South Australia? Also, can these come in stains tints? (Just in case I feel the need to darken the timber stain or add a coloured wash) Are regular timber stains appropriate for altering the finish colouring? Are these types of things available at regular hardware stores?

Any help would be really awesome and much appreciated.

    Welcome to the forum, Sass.

O.K. Maple neck and rosewood fretboard.

On the actual fretboard all you need to do is apply some fretboard conditioner periodically
to stop the fretboard from drying out too much. I'd recommend doing that after you've
refinished the back of the neck.

I remember there being a thread here on the forum in regards to a supplier in Adelaide that has Nitro in cans. Do a search under 'nitro in cans'.
You could also give the maple neck a danish oil or tru-oil which will get it feeling very slick. Very easy to do as well.
