Default Highly Figured Qld Walnut for Guitars

This is a new area for me as primarily i'm a furniture and Box maker.

I have found a stash of highly quilted and fiddleback Qld Walnut. Boards are as wide as 14" most over 12" between 25-30mm thick long lengths.

Is this a good timber for guitar building? and is there any interest??

If so i'll arrange purchase and put it in the Timber market place.

Some I have already put into furniture but was told today it was sort after by guitar makers.

    Cheers

Im in, bring em on. This is my favourite timber bar none! I know Maton uses it for acoustics.

For those who have weak noses be aware that the freshly cut timber smells like a mix of spew and chook dirt.

Well the good news is that this has been aired dried for that long the smell is all but gone, even when it's being machined it is barely noticeable and I don't think that is because it's killed off my smelling factors as I can still smell the nice ones like Rosewood, Cedar and Oak.

Though I do agree the odor is an "AQUIRED ONE" I have it in Veneer and seperating loose leaves is an outside job!

If you want to get maximum value for money out of your stash I'd be looking at resawing it for acoustic back and side sets. For acoustic use you should be looking at resawing to no less than 4mm thickness.
